how do you control ignition timing and advance with a dual carb setup using coil on plug ignition? do i need to use an aftermarket unit like the electromotive XDI or simlar HPX systems??

You bin the carbs, replace with throttles, and use EFI...

...sorry, did I just think that out loud?

    Fair question sticky.

mrshin it was out load, so very un-informed statement.

Yes you will need an aftermarket unit of some sort to control the ignition.

Select any after market ignition only programmable computer/controller unit that takes its trigger off the original sensor, be it a crank sensor or other.

If you have no sensor from the original motor set up then one needs to be purchased or made up.

I believe MSD make ignition only computer/control units which can be used.

Reason I say it is that it seems odd to me why you'd have multi-coil ignition, and carbs, unless maybe you're revving it to 19,000rpm?

carbs make more power at WOT due to better fuel atomization

they just arent as driveable as injection

Some forms of motorsport have limits on induction systems but ignition systems are free.

An ignition only computer with crank fire trigger, with or without coil packs can be of great benifit in competition.

Add a dry sump and crank fire to a motor such as a 2T or 2T-G and you can eliminate the distributor and oil pump.

you could also use something like the megaspark kit which is more adaptable and able to be integrated later if you choose to go to injection.
