A340e ?? 123
Does anyone know if the auto transmission in a SC400 Soarer is the same as that behind a 7MGE?
I have been told both are identical except for the bell housings/front case.
Any clues???
Thanks, D

Same family of box but there are many differences. ie Input shaft, output shaft, valve body, gear ratios, clutch packs etc etc.
MX83 1UZ Conversion. UZZ31 engine, UCF10 Sump, UZS131 Tranny and engine fan idler. Custom exhaust and 147rwKWs.
There are A340E, A340LE and A340LS models.. (plus a few others)
all are slightly different
So! if I had an almost new transmission from an 7MGE import, it wouldn't be any good as a back up???Originally Posted by ProjectSleeper

no i don't believe it would the sc400 uses an a341LE. while the 7mge is an a340e. the numbers you can find on a blue square at the back of the box, it has the model number stamped into it.
you will find the 7mge box won't work as the valve bodies inside are also very differant, they have a differant number of solenoids, so the ecu won't conrtol it properly, i am pretty sure the sc400 box isn't the slip yoke type. while the 7mge, i am guessing from a supra??? is a slip yoke
a little bit more info would be helpful, what kinda car is this for, is it the sc400, or your own custom build, what kinda tailshaft do you have etc

An associated problem I found.
Just went to Melbourne & back last weekend and my speedo is about 10k out.
At 120 I'm doing 110 actual.
Is this likely to be the 225/60 x 15 tyres (205/60 standard), or does the drive cog have a different number of teeth?
Cheers, D
I am running 225/50R16's and my speedo is 5% out at 100km/h (as confirmed via GPS)
In your situation...
205/60 R15 = 1969.78mm circumference
225/60 R15 = 2045.18mm circumference
Therefore, your NEW tyres are approx 3.8% larger,
so at 100km/h indicated - you are really doing 103.8km...
in my case,
205/60 R15 = 1969.78mm circumference
225/50 R16 = 1983.60mm circumference
so at 100km/h indicated - I am really doing 100.7km/h (stuff all difference) - but inreality, the speedo error makes up for the 5%
edit, corrected aspect ratio

these are the options for the available tyre sizes for your 15" rims

215/55 R15 -- 618 mm -- 1942 mm -- -1.52 %
225/55 R15 -- 629 mm -- 1976 mm -- 0.24 %
235/55 R15 -- 640 mm -- 2011 mm -- 1.99 %
