    Default ra28 Fuel sender Injected

Well I have an 18RGEU in my RA28. The fuel tank is from an ST162 (I think ra40 donor car)
Now my fuel gauge reads full but tank is almost empty.
    Any ideas fellas?

So is the tank a st162 or RA40 item? Im interested in seeing how its fitted...

Could you try a ST162 fuel gauge or an aftermarket item?

    G'day mate,

i have no experience at all wit what you are doin. but i have done a few senders in boats etc.
most senders are simply a variable resistor, and the gauge reads this.
the range is pretty universal (like 33ohms to 180 ohms or somethin like that).

so most senders work with most guages.

either one of yours may be faulty.
if you can pull out your sender, put the wire on a multi meter. move the sender, if the resistance dont change, the sender is probly stuffed.

if itdoes change, try conecting your guage directly to it to rule out the wiring. if it still dont work i guess its the guage.

there are alot of aftermarket senders that are easily available from marine shop, but its probly just as easy to get another factory one.

    Cheers
    Stew

I would have thought the tanks would be about the same size?? sounds like something is stuffed like Stew said.

Also curious about which tank you have used in the 28
    Cheers

The resistances are different for some vehicles. Phone an LPG installation place and ask how many difference resistance senders exist for Toyotas (since they need to match if using existing gauges).

There are two wires and one of them is just an earth. Check if you have a short on the wire to the tank since when you earth the sender wire the gauge will show full. With the wire disconnected the gauge should show empty. Is it possible the wires are on backwards?

Next if you have a mulitmeter put it across the two wires on the sender. If it is reads 0 ohms when empty you need to work out why (or if the sender is dead). See if the reading changes when the float is moved (remove the sender to check this).

    Thanks fellas
I used an RA40 with an 18rgeu in it. The guy I got it from said the tank was from an ST??
It fitted perfectly in the RA40 but was a major refit for the RA28.
I will try your ideas using the multimeter. The car is Myeleanora28 in members rides.

Can you fit the original RA28 sender into the new tank?

ra28 works on 0-100 ohms resistance.

    0 - full

    100 = empty

or something .... basically the ST sender is opposite to the 28.

    easy fix...afm guage.

tricky fix is open the sender and reverse the wire wrapped board in the guts to reverse the signal.
