    Default RB20E into TA22

    Hey guys,

One of my mates is offering me the chance to buy an RB20E engine in good nick relatively cheaply and im considering the option of buying it to put into my 1974 TA22 Celica LT.
The car currently has the stock 2T engine in it which is while running, not operating too well. (Cant blame it, cars been exposed to the elements for about 10-15 years without being moved/ran/touched)

So... I was wondering... Do you think I could fit this engine into this car? And if you have heard of other people doing this conversion some links/photos/diary entrys (of the conversion) would be appreciated.

    Thanks in advance,
    Max

i think the length & weight of it kills off the idea... i think someone here decided against RB20DE into an RA65 because of mounts were going to be a fabrication nightmare

This is without considering whether the RB20 sump would fit the TA cross member.

RB20E as in a single cam RB20 non turbo? if that what it is, its cheap because nobody wants them. If you are going to go to the trouble of an engine conversion, pick a better engine and for a TA22 stick with a 4 cylinder.

mmm good to see no bastardization going on, i say if ur after somthing that will retain its handleing ablities go for a 4 banger, im going 4age 20v into mine, have a looky at my members ride thread for progress this is going to be a bit lighter than the 2t,

me and a friend had no touble lifting the 4a outta the trailer the 2t on the other hand was hard enough to slide on the tyre let alone lift it.

The TA22 has a pretty small engine bay so that somewhat limits your engine swap options. You're better off going for a physically small 4-cylinder - either another T series or a 4A of some description would be my pick. RB series engines are huge.

RB20E? you sure they exist, a single cam RB20?

even if it is a DE there are better options that will require less effort. 4AGE, 4AGZ(t)E, 2TG, 3TGTE, 3STGE, 1G-GTE (CA18DET what I've got, or RB20DET)

it'd be lige bolting in an M-TE (2L straigh 6 OHC turbo motor out of the MA63 in japan, AKA rubish, made ~160BHP on a cold day) without the turbo, a heavy pice of crap.

Yup, much like Toyota's M-EU and 1G-EU - the cheap p00 engine for the povo versions of various cars which really should have much bigger engines.
