    Default Broken Speedo?

Hi all recently my speedo decided to stop working...

I think my wiring may be dodgy as well, because when I take a corner my radio cuts out.

I'll have to get in behind the dash and take a looksee.

If anyone has any advice or has experienced a broken speedo please let me know

    Cheers
    Pat

You dont say what the car is. But from your sig im guessing its a Corsa GP turbo. Now, the thing which you will have to consider is whether it is a cable driven or electronic speedo.
If it is cable driven, then it probably wont be wiring, as the speedo will work regardless of power or any other wiring (just if the lights are blown you wont be able to see it at night). Anyway, in that case it will probably be the cable itself.

But provide more information and we can help you more.

    Hey Takai

Yeah some more info would have helped my bad

It is an 87 Corsa GP, I honestly have no idea weather it is an cable driven or electronic speedo. My guess is the latter.

About a week ago the speedo went crazy while I was out driving. (fluctuating)

And then the other day it just completely stopped functioning.

I'll have a closer look today and can confirm if it is electronic or cable.

    Thanks
    Pat

Having said that, I dont think the speedo and radio cutting out are related.

Yeah, solve one at a time. From the year of production i daresay that a cable driven speedo would have been used. Especially since Google tells me that a T50 (or variant) is used (the quaife site lists the same T50 part number for the Corsa), and im pretty sure that they didnt bring out the T50 with a factory electronic option.

The same thing happened to my t50. The speedo was flying around then eventually stopped. It ended up being the end of the cable where it meets the gearbox.

Rob - was the cable just dislodged from the gearbox or was it damaged? Is it hard to get to?

Takai - Thanks for researching the T50 and your patience as I was to stupid to look that up in the first place

Cheers guys, Im a complete newb when it comes to fixing mechanical things!

On the drivers side of the gearbox you can see where the cable joins the box. There is a large collar that screws to the box and this holds the end in the box. You might need some multi-grips to undo it. Mine was broken. I haven't worried about fixing it because it is a track car so no need for a speedo. I'm not sure how it connects to the speedo itself, someone else would know though. I have a ke55 corolla so it may not be the same as yours anyway, (at the speedo end),but I imagine your best and cheapest option would be to find a replacement from a wreckers.
