dont bother, save me the hassle.

im not out for causing arguments, im telling you what ive seen with my own eyes, from the gearbox currently in my car, to the spare from my old motor, to the countless autos ive seen at wreckers and importers.

i dont see why your getting so bent out of shape, relax.

cause do you know how many people generalise the a340e gearbox, there are an amazing amount of variations out there, the reason is cause when my gearbox shat itself a while back i did heaps and heaps of looking around and searching for what options i had, what models are what etc. .

money and time, and the fact that i want a cruiser, also hoping i can somehow rig up my cruise control to still work with the new motor.

Wiso, are yuo saying theres a slight chance my existing tailshaft will slot into the new gearbox?

quite possibly could. if you don't wanna use yours, you can get a A340LE from a jzz30 soarer, they use the same slip yoke, and then get a bellhousing off a 1U box, or find a jza70 A342LE and get the new bell housing (i believe you guys have alot of jza70's over that way), i am pretty sure also the A341LE from the jzx81 chaser has the slip yoke aswell. Not sure what tailshaft the crown uses.

it all depends how you mount the engine, if you mount the gearbox in the same place as standard no reason why the tailshaft can't be used

be careful as it is a VERY tight fit width wise

You wont be able to have headers made, and the crown smaller block huggers will have to be used. this will obviously hinder your dreams of making big power.

You may have to make the engine mounts yourself, as i *dont think* there is not a off the shelf kit available to use.

Just weigh up what you want vs how much you want to spend.

if u want power cheap - buy a 1jz and *bolt it in*

if you want a reliable cruiser, with a *little* more go than the 7m - go the 1uz, but dont expect to be excited with speed.

edit: for some reason i think you need to use the auto that comes with the V8, a mate of mine put a 1uz into his ma70, which already had a worked auto in it, and couldnt use it because of the input shaft width or something along those lines - just wouldnt work!

avoid crown block huggers at all cost! evil power restrictors hiss hiss

i'm making my headers using 90 degree elbows from the head flange, they project out 80 mm(including the flanges) from the heads and i can direct them where they gotta go from there. loads better than the crown manifolds

i dont have the time to even think of custom headers at this stage, that said, im not chasing big power at all, and im sick of turbo, and im sick of the temptation to give it a bit of stick, especially with the added incentive to cause big problems, simply because the car is capable of getting me into strife, REALLY quick.

i want a cruiser, something with a nice V8 burble, and enough shiny bits under the bonnet to be proud of it

    lists these...

im wondering if these will do the trick? they're off the shelf, and a very good price.

yes, i know they're not the best choice power-wise, but im really not concerned with that at the moment, i need reliablility.

thanks to everyone for their help, rep coming when it isnt so damn late at night

they're better than all the other stock headers, they look pretty compact too. they'd do nicely, but make sure they'll fit first before buying them. ask for measurements.

    Sorry for replying so late.

I never did find out which headers I used. They were the ones that are log style and don't go out from the block more than about 3 inches. Tony from Meridian (sp?) Motorsport in Melbourne should be able to tell you which ones you need.

If you get the whole soarer package/front cut, you'd be in best shape to do the full thing in minimal time. Including engine/gearbox/computer/mounts. I'm not sure if you'll need to modify the mounts on the crossmember, or even if the crossmember is transferrable.

Other bits that you should factor into the swap for minimal down time are things like: fanbelt, timing belt, plugs/leads, fluids, alternator rebuild, powersteering rebuild. These can quickly add up in price, and trips to the shops.

fluids i have plenty of spare, ive got toyota red, 4 litre of type 4 tranny fluid, oil i can do, filter, i can rebuild the alternator myself (done enough god damn it) powersteering, ill have to hope

main thing i need is an engine crane and a welder, in other words, the bling garage, just to put the engine in and make up the mounts to hold it there, everything else, i can fab up myself.
