did you remove the circlip?
put it in the vice so the jaws have enough clearance to let the ball joint through when you belt it
Does the XT130 ball joint come out of the LCA?
i cant get the sucker out and i know some of the early cars they didnt come out
Cheers

hello
yeah circlip is off, i have belted it, i will try harder![]()
Try and find somone with a press, flogging new ones in is not a good practice.
Suspension shops round our way charge about $30 to replace a pair.

jon
im glad this topic came up, i have a set of XT130 arms ready to go into my sprinter, the balljoints seem to have already been replaced but they are "notchy" not real sure if they are supposed to be.
i think ill give it 15 minutes then just hand them over to a suspension shop, they can fit new bushes at the same time.
oh yeah, from what i can tell they are only 5mm longer than AE86 ones, what an upgrade!
oh yeah, anyone got a part number for new ones?
yeah i will have a press next week when im back in the workshop but for now i just wanted to get the old ones out

disclaimer; steering arm needs to be reamed out to suit balljoint
hello
yeah the ball joint does come out. i had to use a big ass press to get mine out.
the part number for new ball joints is BJ145

poida,
i have almost finished actually im just on the welding and reassembly stage, i will have a step by step up soon
merc, did you end up getting these out?
i tried bashing mine against a hammer, but all i did was shoot grease all over the garage ceiling.
nah mate still not out im probly gonna take them to a shop
Anyone used a ball joint spliter? kind of looks like a wedge/fork. Removing the balljoints can be a pig of a job![]()
that works for seperating them off the steerings arms but not to take them off the LCAs
ok, i pulled one out today, very easy. here is what you need to do:
pull the circlip off the old balljoint, pull off the boot that holds the grease in, wipe the grease off.
cut a piece of 2 inch exhaust tube so it is about an inch longer than the ball joint grease nipple end from the LCA (if this makes sense)
spray RP7 or WD40 or something (i used RP7, seemed good) and let it soak for a while. spray some more on, it will help the grease come off too.
now you need a vice, the bigger the better.
support the ball joint and LCA in the vice, you want to puch the shaft/nut against the bit of exhaust tube, the exhaust tube sits over the grease nipple end of the ball joint.
carefully wind the vice tight, you will need to support the LCA as the ball joint will try to pivot and jump out of the vice.
do the vice up really tight, the ball joint should pop out with a soft gunshot noise.
either do similar to get the new one back in, hammer them in or or take them to a shop.
hope this helps
