Default In need of some tuning tips. for the haltechhhhh

ive been persistant and trying to either tune it my self or break something .

    car is 98 hilux 3rz runnin a haltech e6x.

ive soughted all the timing and enough of a map to make it idle without blowing fuel everywhere and not to be to lean. as it approachs operatin temp around 170degrees, it starts to over fuel well atleast id say it would be fuel smells like it . i know its not oil. as it starts to get fuely it gets worse and worse over a period of around 20 seconds and then finally coughs and splutters and stalls, ive tried upping the fuel , downing the fuel etc. once its done this and stalld and if i restart it, it wil fire and run for a second or 2 and then stall unless you fluctuate the accelerator and its real rough , pops and blows fuel everywhere and carries on. and will stall if you dont keep doing it.

it also seems to be all over the shop sometimes it will start first turn others it wont sometimes it will run perfect others a little rough, and air and water temps have been similar when this is happening...

so has anyone got any ideas. ??

took it for a drive round the streets before it came to operating temp put more fuel in seems to be running better until its fouled 2 plugs and is now runnin on 2 cylinders but the maps are better now that ive been able to get some load onto the engine and see a few things better, 4 month old fuel cant be helping the problems either..

any other ideas feel free to throw them at me.

I don't know if it's the case in your scenario, but I had hells own job getting the haltech to like the toyota sensors (dizzy to be exact), and it ended up that my tuning issues (similar problems to you, but ignition only problems) were directly related to bad inputs from the motor. Despite the fact that it 'appeared' to be the ecu at fault, it was infact the engine giving noisy inputs to the ecu, and the ecu spitting out bad output back.

Sounds like it may be a temp compensation issue. When cold, you can fuel engines to the buggery and they start quite happily.
Try cleaning the plugs (I use carby cleaner) and leaning off the fuel maps prior to starting it.
    YelloRolla's KE20 1/4mi = 11.32 @ 119mph @ 22psi on slicks
    12.44 @ 113 mph on 165 wide street tyres
210rwkw - not bad for a smelly 3TGTE running pump fuel.

I disagree... It 'sounds' like a temp compensation issue, but I think it may be more to do with the temperature rising and then causing noise in the electronics, and THAT is causing the dirty signals, rather than the ecu compensating for a correct heat reading.
