ta22 conversions

gday guys ive bought a tidy little ta22 celica one owner for 500 bux and the motor is stuffed. whats the cheapest but best conversion for it. im talking like an engine i can pick up for 4-500 bux. like a 3t or another 2t even but i don't know about anything that fits.

The 2T will fit very easliy as it is the original motor. It's nothing special but you will get it cheap as most people will be getting rid of them for an upgrade. Not 100% on the 3T but it should bolt in. You will need to have the thing engineered for this as you are increasing the capacity for 1.6 to 1.8. That will probably also require a brake upgrade. For the maginal power increase so not worth it!

But for the cheapest possible engine, go the 2T

i wouldn't bother engineering for a 3t, very marginal difference and would be hard to pick just lloking at it, but i'm in tassie and law enforcement and inspections aren't as up your A-hole as you city folk

500 bucks is pushing it for any kind of real upgrade other than a 2T or 3T. you MIGHT pick up a 2t-g for that if you're really lucky.

You can put a 3t in without eng cert. just give eng no to transport authoriy. 1800cc single cam is O.K., but you will get more from a 2t if you play with it.

My suggestion would be a 2tg bolt in and go. sometimes need an eng cert.You will have lots of fun with a 2tg.

Definitely go a 2tg, you will be able to find one for around the $600 mark. Even try for an engine and gearbox package - its alway good to have a spare box. They are a bolt in job for the ta22, the only thing you will need to worry about is re-wiring all the accesories.

If you do any sort of engine conversion, try to renew whatever parts you can on the engine *BEFORE* it goes in the car.
