Arrow Advice on wheels and suspension for MA61

    Hi

At last my finances are in order to start work on my MA61 - I thought I would do things the wrong way around, and do the brakes and the suspension before the engine.

The car has lowered springs and stuffed shocks all round - so I intend to replace the lot. I've been looking at these for front and rear shocks:

    https://935motorsports.com/catalog/p...oducts_id=1166

    Adjustable Camber tops:

    https://935motorsports.com/catalog/p...oducts_id=1294

And a coilover kit for the front

    https://935motorsports.com/catalog/p...oducts_id=1143

These are all from the USA: Question one: Does anyone know if this sort of stuff is available in Aus?

Any other suggestions - I only want to lower the car about 1" from standard - it's too low at the moment for daily driving.

    Brakes
I'm going with a brake upgrade from hoppers - 290x28 Ford AU3 twin piston PBR calipers with five stud hub.

Question two: What's the most common type of 5 stud pattern to get access to the most amount of aftermarket wheels?

Question three: All the searching I've done tells me that I need a wheel with +8mm offset. I'm thinking of 16" (to clear the new brakes) - am I limited to trying to get some +8mm offset wheels? What else can I look at? (except Simmons - too much $$$)

    Thanks
    David.

Actually you're doing the smart thing and doing it the right way around Getting a good base to work with is a good idea

    I concur

You can give Noltec a ring regarding Coilovers as they do kits aswell but i havnt contacted them for prices or even if they have the correct size for our struts either.

Camber top, try Noltec aswell theres a part number in my thread in my sig for them. They adjust camber and caster at the same time.

As for the shocks, as far as i know they are only available from the states but it wouldnt hurt trying to ask your local suspension shop if they have those AGX focus and mrs shocks. Or check the Aus catalog on their website.

Dont forget strut bars (check Roberts S13 write-up for that) and Addco sway bars from the states too.

the 5-stud pattern you want is 5x114.3.

The easiest way to get this is using MS123/MS65 hubs. do a search.. this has been covered A LOT, as loads of the ma61 guys have done this (same as you: to make wheels/brakes easier).
Have you considered doing a skyline (R33) brake conversion? the calipers mount up quite well, as Cruzida had a load of mounting brackets made up (that's why there are quite a few ma61 guys with R32/R33 calipers and discs... plus they're cheap!)
Wheels... well once you have the 5-stud, a few old fords and the like had 5-stud low offset rims, so you can start hunting. 4-stud low offset really don't exist.

Yes - that was going to be my first option, but not so easy to find them.

Yes - but again - they aren't just laying around ( at least where I can find them !!) - There's a crappy old set on ebay - and I can't find any at the wreckers around here.

Plus - I need to do the bearings, etc anyway - and the hopper kit comes with all that as new.

    Cheers

no, the crown hubs are not easy to find... blame the ma61 boys on this forum

For skyline brakes, skylinesaustralia have them come up regularly. Wheel bearings? that's a cheap part from a bearing shop, and shouldn't influence your choice of brakes

I agree. Brake upgrades should be always carried out first before any other major power increases.

Would this be a true statement?? It came from the company with a front brake upgrade kit.

    >From what I can see the MA61 uses the same front strut as Celica's of that time.

    Thanks

Z31 front hubs will fit the MA61 also if you can't find the MS65 items. Still leaves you needing to get rears though
