Hi,
The world is run by rules, whether it's here on these forums, on the road, at your place of work, and just about everywhere. We may not like the rules. We may try and buck or bend the rules. but that's basic human nature and we all do it at some time in our lives.Originally Posted by IN 05 NT
The rules are available for all to read and really, in the scheme of things, they're not obtuse, irrelevant or complicated rules. They were written to be read and understood and referenced as required. It is easier to refer people to the rules rather than waste time trying to explain them - as the rules are self-explanatory - and as adults we assumed that people will read them, as you would (should) read the rules for a bank loan, your drivers license, your work conditions, and just about everything else you do.
The rules are there to be read and adhered to, and, as required, we point people to these rules so they can refresh themselves of their meaning and our expectations.
But it is about tech! That's the entire basis for these forums - to provide technical information and help with the fixing, modding and restoration of your Toyota vehicle. It's the foundation and prime directive of Toymods. The forums is the public face of the club.ITS NOT JUST ABOUT TECH.....theres alot more on the forum.....
The old forums were becoming a mess, particularly in the Outhouse section, where it was a haven for stupid threads and shit fights. We, as a club, did not regard the Outhouse as presenting a good public image for what is ostensibly a technical forum. The new forums were created to get back the traditional roots of the club and provide superlative technical information. To do this the requirements for joining the forums was made more stringent and reputation was included (in an attempt) to provide an indicative level of Toyota competence of the posters.
Instead of the Outhouse we now have Non-Car Discussion. The name change was to reflect this area as being for discussion/debate/commentary on non vehicular related topics, but it was never intended to become the new Outhouse.
In regards to technical matters something is either correct or not. It's pretty much a no-brainer. However, in the area of non-techncial commentary then it's a whole new ball game as we all have different aspects of what is funny, time wasting, rude, wrong and a thousand other emotive concepts. It's not an easy thing to police or determine what constitutes non technical commentary as we all have a different pserpective on it. In reality it was quite possible for the Club to totally remove the non technical forums - thereby leaving this site only available for purely technical and vehicular discussion. If this happened then most people would of come here for the techo stuff and go elsewhere for their amusement. Nevertheless, the Non-Car Discussion exists, but it's a very small part of what the club represents and as such, certain rules and limitations have been placed on this area of the forums to ensure it remains in its box.
The least we expect is for people to read & respect the rules, these forums and the Club. You would expect no less of people coming to your house - to respect your place and the behaviour in your home. We expect the same for these forums.
