My custom dash.

noticed a crack in the dash be for i stared so i put some fiberglass behind it to strengthen it up..
the crack..

the back..

and then started glassing the front..

and some more on the back..

then after alot of fileing and sanding i boged it up..

i did not use even 1/2 the amount of bog i used on my dash.
this is were I'm up to ATM needs sanding then maybe a little more bog, then sand again, then primer and paint.

if any body would like a dash done like this PM me.
i would be interested in doing a RA28 or 22/23

Looks good mate,
If your working around plastics and worried about heat/ dissolving, use an epoxy resin.
I use it for my work doing carbon overlays on plastic parts, and just about everything else, little more expensive but no fumes, as long as it will be painted over. only use clear polyester resins on external parts with not painted as they are more readily available in UV stable form.

Interesting that this poped up at this time! It's good! Good work.

Got a question tho, I'm going to be doing some fibreglassing in a couple of weeks and one part may involve bonding to a stock bumper. Thing is the stock bumper is one of those rubber ones, will it stick at all even after rubbing up? Or is it just gonna be too flexable? etc?

I could probably get around using part of the stock bumper by reproducing it in foam and glassing it up and adding it, but its obviously going to be easier using the stock parts.

Any thoughts?

Its a pain to get the stuff to stick to plastic let alone rubber, polyester resins will just eat it away i would expect. also with the flex there is little to no hope.

You could make/mold up a skin that will go around the part, maybe put a bit of sikaflex under it attach it then attach with rivets.

yeah I thought that might be the case. I was thinking it might be possible to cover it in resin and then fiberglass the back side of it. Basicaly I've got a fibregass bumper that I want to combine with a stock bump half half kind of.

Might have to copy it adn mold that in instead...

I sanded this last week and just needed a bit more bog to fix some little bits
after the 1st sand and then some more bog....

when the bog drys i will do some more sanding and then primer and paint.

after heaps of sanding thats it.
my mate came and picked it up and he is going to paint it so when he puts it back in his car i will take pics.

Chris has still not taken pics of that last dash i made but i have spent about 3 moths building this one...

its for a N15 pulsar its the try that is on the pasigers side.
so it was made to face the driver..

sorry NO work in progress pic of it but it was pretty much the same as the other 2 just a **** load mire bog.

i was making a dash for some one so at the same time i made my one as well...
made up 4 rings and hot glued them in..

made shore that they sat right be for glassing..

then fiber glassing...

then bog..

then bit of sanding some primer and then some paint
and finished...

just waiting on my oil pressure gauge for the empty hole.

Very impressive work all round! When you lay your first lot of matting over the gaps between the cups what do you back the holes with?

Also, in your very first post it looks like you've remade your entire dash. Am I making shit up or is this what you've done?

thanks chris i used a little bit of PVC pipe for any big holes and the rest i just put mat over.

the very 1st pic is not my dash i was just showing a dash i seen and wanted something similar.

Nice work.

I'll be doing something like this soon, but instead of painting the holder, it will be integrated with the dash when it gets recovered, making an OEM look.
