    Default old gearbox replacement

Well my gearbox died on the weekend and i have one open option atm for replacing it. Although there is one thing. The gearbox has been out in the open and static for over a year now wrapped in plastic. Now with that established, would it be possible to rebuild it with new gaskets etc and a simple flush to remove crap or is it cactus? Let me know...

What do you mean when you say wrapped in plastic, actually wrapped in it like glad wrap or it had a tarp sitting over it?

Can you turn the input shaft by hand, and does the output shaft turn? If it still turns then chances are it will work once you pop some oil in it and mate it to a car.. unless it got lots of moisture in it I can't see why it wouldn't work again.

As far as gaskets go you probably only need to replace a couple of seals to be on the safe side.

the gear box should be fine, you'll need to change the fluid so that'll be fine.
check that it all spins fine, if you think you need to, have a look at the torque converter and change that to a newer one, but it should be fine mate.

make sure you change the rear tailshaft seal about ($10) and front input shaft seal if you have some extra time. do the gaskets if they are leaking or if they are easy enough to do whilst the box is out...
and lastly flush it out with the same oil you want to use in it.
should be sweet if the gearbox is mechnically good and had oil in it protecting the inside.
