Default Broken thermal switch on imported corona

    I got a ST190 Toyota corona (1992), has the 4S-FE engine

The thermal switch is broken on it, which is causing rough idling. I went to toyota, and they don't stock the part, because it's an imported car. They dont have a part number either. Does anyone know where i can get it?

here are a few pics of it...

few more pics can be found here

At a guess its the thermo fan switch.
So it should be the same as locally delivered 5SFE's.

    ST184 and ST204 Celica's I think?

So the 5S-FE switch will be the same as the 4S-FE?

Are these hard to replace? and do they cost alot?

If it is the thermo fan switch, then it should be close enough to the 5SFE.
The 5SFE one may even be more suited to Australian temperatures.

Wrecker shouldn't charge too much, $50 tops. Easy to change.

I don't suppose a place like Super Cheap Auto, autopro, or something similar would stock them?

Is there a part number for the ones on the 5SFE that i can quote?

Tridon will make a new replacement nongenuine copy

    They are about $70-$90.

A 2nd hand one will work perfectly though.

I wouldnt expect this to cause a rough idle! Unless its over heating badly in which case you probably now have another problem!

Have picked up one from the 5S-FE, cost me $25

Will try put it in tomorrow morning, engine is hot atm...

Do i need to use a sort of sealing tape when i put it in?

The rough idling, i believe, is when the fan turns on, the idle speed is not being increased to accomdate. This is what i think anyway, as the idle becomes rough only when the fan is on..

can't hurt to replace anyway, and if it doesn't work, i'll try something else

You shouldnt have to put any tape on it at all as the thread "should" be tappered!

ok so i took the old one out, and when comparing with the new one...

The new one fits, but is it ok? I'm sure you can tell the difference between the new one and old one
