    Default AE100 gear shift problem

    I have 1995 AE100 1.5 corolla & have just replaced the gear selector on the gearbox for the 3rd time the last 2 seized up & it was very hard to select 3rd 1st & between gears, i have now fitted a selector from 1990 EE90 & its smother than ever have any of you guys came across this problem & what causes it? because its a japanese import toyota Ireland cant give me any help & any mechanic i ask never came across this problem.

    are the shifter cables hitting anything in their path from the gearshift to the gearbox? I know the current-model RAV4's (manual's if you can find them) do have this problem too, except it makes more of a grinding noise in 3rd sometimes apparently.

    Hi once the shifter cables are disconnected they are very free, when the selector was taken out of the gearbox it was nearly siezed had to put it in a vice to move it, very strange because when it went in as a replacement for the 1st one it was really free.
