This thread came up not long ago on another forum and thought maybe it might be of some use to someone here.

The original thread and some good info re helmets etc.
My sig has been pruned as it was over 5 lines long.
this is general and not tech!
it would be useful to about 20 guys out of 5000 on toymods.
The way most people pick a suit {after selling them for over 9 years both custom and of the shelf} is price, most go for two layer and flame proof under garments!
The trouble is that there are very few fire situations racing so most people think"will not happen to me", but it can.
People i do high HP cars for i push for a proper size fire extinguisher, not some little bottle, the reason being that you need something close that you can reach from the drivers seat in a road car that will keep fuel and oil fires at bay for awhile if you ever get trapped. You can always pass the fire extinguisher to someone outside the car or they can see it if you get trapped.
When you start making big HP you start using very big fuel pumps so there are situstions were the pump cutoff dosnt come in.
On the track there is someone there at all times, but a good rated 3 layer suit{around $800} an balaclava{around $80} is a good investment for the 1 in a 10000000 times its needed!
It has been many years since i have been involed with a racecar or built one that didnt have a fire bomb system. Even in a street car that has big fuel pump or pumps a fire bomd system that will cost you as little as $1000 is a great piece of saftey kit!
If you pay $1500 a year or less in insurance wouldnt you rather you loss the whole car and have that same $1000-$1500 spent on making sure you dont loose you?
My thought for the day![]()
