    Default Identifying speed sensor wiring

    Hey all,

I've done a search but not really come up with anything. I'm trying to finalise my ECU wiring, but I'm having trouble with the speed sensor wiring...or more to the point...which one is it? The factory diagrams make it rather vague. I dont have the old ECU to work out which one it was (Jap-spec car) either.

I'm thinking I could either tap it off the cruise wiring, but it *should* be on the existing ECU plugs so I'd rather use them.

Any ideas how I could simply identify it? Have multimeter, will travel.

    Cheers,
    Nathan

    Is the car cable speedo?

If it is, then trace it back to the dash, and then look at the wiring on the back. I did this with my Hilux, and found it was marked RS on the back of the dash cluster. And it ended up being the Green-Orange stripe cable.

Yeah it is cable. Good point, the entire dash is out atm so it should be doable

It's a 1GGTE in a GA61 Celica XX which originally had a 1GEU. The GTE wiring is down pat, it's the other side which I need to work out.

You can always make a cheapo speed cut defender. Flasher unit + a relay wired to switch ground does the job nicely on my mates JDM 4age ecu. Put it on a big lead under the bonnet so you can't hear the clicking.

Thats for the heads up Karl, will have a look around. I don't need it for a speed cut, I need it as an input to my ECU.

i would challenge that. i have seen a many pink ones.

Actually i would say that box -> dash would probably be purple but dash to ECU may be pink

Found it. It was blue with a white trace. I ended up having to get it from the cruise control wiring though, because none of the spare wires leading to the ECU were suitable.

Oh, and to find it I used a drill and found out which wire was going to earth 4 times every revolution as I span it

wouldnt your ECU board have it printed on? lift the lid and have a look, see what colour wire comes from that tab. (even though you've already found it).

assuming your sensor is similar to the AE86 one,

scroll down a bit for my post with pics, its pretty easy to check the terminals for speed output.
