Default closing a boost controller......what would the effect be?

    hey guys,.

for the last few months ive thought ive had a fOOked turbo......

but i raced in the wet at wakefield park bout 3 months ago....and to try and get more traction i turned the boost controller (turbosmart manual) all the way down till it locked up tight,,,,,

but since after that boosting slowly got worse and worse......making me think that a turbo was seizing up.....

and would only boost properly for the first few times.....on a cold-warm motor. then boost would only creep up slowly....to say a max of 10 psi.....instead of 14-15psi

and also under decelaration it would make a hissing noise......like a wastgate was open.....? or a vibrating shaft.....

well just then i turned the controller back open, wound it out a couple of turns and now it boosts fine in every gear 14-15 psi...

would closing a boost controller all the way down/ close the vacuum line and cause opening of the wastegate EARLY?

    what have i done?....im confused,..

    cheers guys,, blake

Depends what sort of boost controller it is, most are bleed valves so the more that you open up valve more pressure is bled off so less signal to Wastegate = more boost.

If that sort closing it off gave full boost signal to wastegate hence open earlier.

Slower boost rise would be because wastegate starts to bleed of exhaust gas a fair way before maximum boost, hence boost rise on electronic controllers much quicker.

a boost controler when wound out bleeds/leaks boost from the wastegate acuvator so it stays closed longer giving higher boost levels. winding it down shut would just be like having no boost controler so the wastegate would open at it's factory setting which on most turbo's is ~7psi.
