Hey replying to myself already.
Found a great thread from River http://www.toymods.net/forums/showth...&highlight=18r
Which looks to have some scans of the Solex Carbs in the collection. Might take some deciphering for me though.

Hey guys,
After having just purchased an RA23 with 18rgu I have been looking high and low for info on the carb setups. (Its running rich as hell on one of the carbs)
Anyway I have found this page http://www.190slgroup.com/tech/tech.htm
There are a couple of PDF's there to do with Solex's. (Havent read anything yet as my download speeds are dreadful today)
I am thinking of ordering the mikuni Solex kits for wolf creek racing via ebay, looks like a pair of kits with the service manual equates to about $80AU which i think is pretty good considering the local carby guy said they would cost me about $110 each!!!!!!.
Anyway if anyone has any tips on getting the carby to not run as rich as it is please let me know what to do. I am virgin when it comes to carby work (pullet apart my mazda 626 one cleaned it up and put it back together no probs) but just not sure where to start on these babies.
PS its the carby closest to the firewall that is the problem child. The front carby seems to be running nice. (Plugs are clean compared to the rear 2 cylinder plugs being blacker than black after only a few minutes running.

This sounds like what was happening to my 2tg a while ago. The same carb was playing up and the same plugs were getting covered in oil. However I believe mine may have not been running rich enough. Does your carb ever front fire? Mine did this quite often, then it eventually caused the filter to catch on fire.
Check out this thread that I started as it may help you investigate your poblems.

As for altering fuel mixtures there should be two spring screws towards the back of each carby. By adjusting the screws you will alter your fuel mixture and idling rev. Can't remeber which way increases and decreases mixture. It would be best to get someone to tune it for you.
Hopefully the thread will help you

Hi,
I'm glad the "Mammoth 18R Diagram" thread gets used.
There's also a good thread for tuning the 18R-G carbs.....

If it is 1 carby running rich and other 1 running decent mixture it is unlikely to be jets or anything as they will probably be set up the same unless someone has replace 1 carby at some stage.
Most likely cause is float level, mixture screws realy only effect idle and very light throttle.

Sorry about that Rodger i will buy you a coffee next time I'm in the ACT
but we have to share the information.
Cheers
I'll remember and find a nice coffee shop!
Or if I get over there to the west.
It is a very good manual as it goes into symptoms and diagnosis methods and makes suggestions on how to improve the tune.
Definately have watch what I quote now.

Thanks for the extra info guys, I didnt get around to it today but I will be checking the basics like float level etc tomorrow.
A friend came round this morning and showed me to check the jets were not loose (one was) but didnt make a dramatic difference.
