Smile Posting Guidelines - For Sale

    Hi Guys

There is a lot of discussion of what should and shouldn't be allowed in for sale threads. Here's your chance to spell out guidlines for how for sale threads should be posted.

Obviously we are going to stay with not allowing commercial advertisers to take advantage of free advertising to a large receptive audience so that ones staying.

I also hate the rubbish EOI and imaginary auction crap that people try and do on the current forum so that will definately not be allowed.

Throw in your idea's and we'll make an announcement in the for sale areas with the guidlines and etipuette of how to use the section.

I'll just repost what I posted in another thread so that all can see it

These have come from other forums.

There are no EOI (Expressions Of Interest), you’re either selling it or you aren’t. If you want to auction something then put it on EBAY. Any posts without pricing will be advised of such and then removed a few hours later if no price is put up.
If you are really interested in the sale, contact the seller with the details given. If you send a PM, place the PM on "tracker" so you know when they receive the PM. Any posts eg "PM sent" will be deleted as they are considered a 'bump'.
"good luck with sale" and anything like that is in the same boat and will result in the post being deleted and the member warned.
For Sale template - MUST BE USED

    For sale:

    Condition:

    Price and price conditions:

    Extra Info:

    Contact Details:

    Location:

    Delivery & Conditions of Delivery:

Now, I'm not sure if the For Sale template 'appears' when you hit NEW THREAD in the relevant sections (which would be VERY cool IMO), or if its a cut and paste job from a sticky.
I don't have permission to start new thread on that forum.

Other thing is, is there a non-Toyota car for sale section? or are we limiting car sales to Toyota only?

Im a little hesitant with a "must have pricing" stance... simply because there are some things i sell which i honestly dont know what they are worth to someone else.

i think that going too nuts on the "classifieds section rules" makes the forum appear to have too much focus on the for sale sections..... yes a few strict rules and guidelines should be in place... but i dont think hardcore Nazi tactics are the best.

    IMO:

    # For sale thread template = VERY GOOD
    # zero EOI threads - delete them
    # bullshit replies deleted, no questions asked (eg. my mate habib can get these for $5)
    # abuse and/or attacks on a person or their sale gets intant probation
    # auctions can get fucked too.
    # if you have no pics... SAY YOU HAVE NO PICS.

    yeah that'll do from me
    ...... butt scratcher?!

That all sits well with me.

Only reason I'd suggest a price is necessary, its because without it, it has the ability to become an auction, or an EOI thread.

I think a 'ball park figure' is perhaps a solution?

Yep we figured that the members were best served by limmiting it to Toyota's. We get used a lot by people just wanting to get free advertising for selling any random car.

Basically the idea is not to attract people who just want to use the forum for their own personal gain rather becoming a member of the community.

As I mostly moderate the For sale sections on the current forum, I'll stink my 2c worth in.

If we could get that template to pop up automatically in a new post, it'd be great (but not being literate with this type of program I don't know how hard it would be)
All fields would require to be filled out. If you don't have something like pics, then say so, or no idea of how much, then "offers"

EOI- bye bye, though its a good way to find out approx how much something is worth

    Auctions - bye bye

    Toyotas only for sale -
not quite sure about this one. Like the guy recently who was trying to sell/trade his Skyline for in this case a Toyota wagon. We might be turning away potential people to join in our community.
Maybe selling only non Toyotas shouldn't be allowed, but trading or part swapping for Toyotas is?

oh yeah, couple of other things.

Once an item is sold, the seller replies to the thread with a response of "Sold" or something similar if 10 characters are needed.

It'll point out to the mods to lock the thread to stop the "is this still for sale..." 3 years later.

Are your own posts editable in this section? If so, then the heading of the first post should also edited to add the word "Sold"
Maybe also reporting the thread to the mods so its gets locked instead of us just stumbling across it?

    A guideline to add:
"Toymods does not delete from this forum completed For Sale threads. They are locked & can then be a useful resources for others with similar items for sale to judge their worth".

I don't know how many threads I've seen with "Sold - please delete" as the heading, or Reported messages asking the same.
I've been re-editing them with the original heading, plus adding the word Sold & then locking the thread.

Is there really a need to keep old for sale ads?

I personally think anything thats been over 3 months without a reply should be auto deleted.

If someone wants to sell it, they will keep bumping it.

It would definately stop old threads being dug up.

But what if you've got some part that you don't know how much its worth?
You could search the For Sale section & see how much other's have been selling for, or you can check to see if your price is too high, or you aren't going to ask enough for it.

I agree that anything without a reply after a period should be auto-locked if possible. That will catch most of the sold items, but there are still threads where people keep on asking questions which would more legitimately belong in Tech or they keep hassling the seller.

I think that once Item(s) are sold if the user can either Post Sold or change the Title to Sold (preferable (and "sold" only so you don't get the "similar threads" at the bottom of the screen banking up for ease of serching)) and then the Mods can come along and simply lock the thread.

I often search the classifides for the same reason as Karl as I just don't know. I'm sure there are plenty of people that get a GA70 front cut (for instance) and once all the parts are used, have no idea of the prices to ask for the left over parts. And thus just advertise they are for sale and say make an offer, which leads to bidding.

The other thing which I do find annoying (when searching prices) is using PM for pricing. that in itself I don't mind but it doesn't help when I dig up an old thread and there is no price there. I'm still in the dark as to what to ask. CLG started this trend and I'll be the first to admit I use it, I'm wondering if it would be too much to ask to, at the conclusion of sale post the sale price?

    Throughts feelings on this?

i think that prices of items are difficult to establish at times, particularly for older cars.

for example, chrome stripping for KE10/15's... it's almost impossible to get in good condition, but there are few people who will pay for it. i sold a set to a toyota nut who flew over from canada for $50, but locally i also sold some for much more.

i will also sell to a mate or "worthy forumee" for much less than some dweeb who has no idea (esp with things like 3K bigport heads )

I'm not sure what the answer is... EOI's do suck if the person is just testing the water... and past price is not always an indication of worth.. just what the seller was willing to part with it for.. some people are willing to pay extra for parts in perfect condition, but many people (i'm thinking of corolla kiddies) will not pay much at all..(but collectors still do)

maybe PM with offer is ok as then you can differentiate between friends/dweebs...
ONO will work out like auction threads also.. as the ONO gets higher.. how can that be distinguished from auction? ONO in thread and PM offers?

i guess people should work out what it is worth to them, and if it doesn't sell then price goes lower...

perhaps it should be a condition that if someone disagrees with a price (ie the "no way man, it's not worth anywhere near that" msg) then they should PM the seller with that view, and any such messages in thread should be deleted..

oh wait.. i'm just echoing others thougth already posted.....

ps, Sold and locked is good too.
