    Default Fuel Question

Hey guys, I have a full tank of fuel with a leaded additive in it. I need to empty the fuel as I am stripping my car and need to remove the fuel tank. My question is can I put unleaded fuel which has a leaded additive in it into an unleaded car?

    Cheers

    Dave

    leaded:

"If a catalytic converter is installed, it is essential that unleaded fuel be used, as lead destroys the catalytic properties of the noble metals. ..."

    lead additive:

    http://www.aecc.be/en/faq.html#4

"Q. Can I use the new lead replacement petrol (LRP) or additives with a catalyst-equipped car?

    A. No. LRP and lead replacement additives should be avoided with catalyst cars, as there are a number of different chemistries used in lead replacement petrol, several of which can damage catalytic converters. LRP and lead replacement additives are designed for older, non-catalyst equipped cars."

    thats what i found

it is not such a good idea.
LRP contains manganese (in shell fuel anyway) and is a no go for O2 and cat..

you could start up a mowing business? or sell the petrol to a mate

Your lead addative is most likely not lead, would be some other form valve seat lubricant.

Do you have the bottle that it came out of or know what brand it is so you can read the lable to see what is in it, may also state wether cat safe.

Without knowing what is in it would most likely not put it in a cat equiped car.

Guaranteed not to be lead, but as the top posts say, the chemicals in the mix can damage the cat. The chemicals vary, and arnt listed on the additive containers so its not worth the risk.

if you go to the website of the company that made the lead additive, you should be able to download the MSDS sheet for it, and that will have, more or less, the additives in it.

they don't for wynns tho.. i wonder if a vague MSDS is acceptable?

Just put it in a jery can and use it for the lawn mower and wipper snipper. Its not worth a tank of fuel cost to stuff something which will cost you more than 50-100 dollars.
