Default Intercooler end tanks - mounted on same side

im almost at the stage where i need to do the pipe work for my 86. its running a GZE.

now i was going to try and make the cooler pipes as short as possible. i was thinking of using a cooler with the inlet and outlet on the same sides.

this would allow the air to go straight from the s/c through the cooler and back in to the plenum. i have a custom inlet manifold which runs over the top of the s/c.

what are people thoughts and ideas with these types of coolers. ie pressure drop and flow?
i want to go this way to keep the pipe work short to eliminate some idle problems and boost response up.

    cheers for comments and ideas!

(nore these are pics only, not the ones i intend to buy)

they look crap! only half the area for flow.... that has to be a worst possible design for that setup
this idea is much better.... much bigger cross-sctional area for air to flow thru.. but same residence time if the total core area is the came

of course, you'd only have inlet on one side...

that cooler you pictured looks almost like a converted oil cooler from an RX

if you want a cheap one to try, HDJ100 landcruiser runs a pleated tube and fin core(similar to jza80/jzx81 core) with both inlet and outlet on the same side.
they would flow a fair bit of air too.

    Hi,
    Go a 7MGTE intercooler.

I've purchased one for my TA22+4AGZE as I'm running the pipes both on the same side (drivers side).

It should flow enough for a 4AGZE with big pulley, sc14 and larger TB or whatever ideas you have for the engine.

    Cheers

really slide a double pass cooler like that is the very close in distance to having a pipe coming back from a single pass cooler to the intake, will be very little diffrence in distance traveled.
