Default can a manual ecu run an auto?

hey, just wanting to know if it can be done, cos i picked up my jza70 half cut last weekend, and the guy chucked in a chipped 'CABIN' ecu for a good price as it didnt have a standard one. i asked if it would work and he said it would be fine and i heard it running with it. it all plugs in fine also..

this is whats written on the cabin sticker
    8500rpm (im guessing redline)
    252 7degrees 7mins (???)

    any info/help appreciated
    cheers josh v

Will probably depend on the box you want to use, and how that's controlled - some boxes that are computer controlled have their own dedicated ECU's, some are controlled by the engine ECU. If you're lucky enough to be able to controll the box externally, using the manula ECU should be OK, it will shift a bit harder, as the manual ECU doesn't soften the timing to allow a smoother change for the auto.

You will need an external controller.

You can either get a manualised controller from a place like MV Automatics, or you can try and retro fit an MA70 autobox controller. I'm not 100% sure if they require an auto engine ecu though.

Some of the ECU's even when marked manual have got the extra pins the same as the auto version - I'm not sure if they actually go someplace, but it might well be worth looking!
