Default XT130 Struts, short stroke insert

    Hey,

Sort of my first post here. I'm currently upgrading my KE70 brakes for a 4A-GE 20V conversion.

I was wondering what people are using for a shorter stroke insert? Not using coilovers so I'll need to find someone making custom springs as well (hopefully cheaper than Kings).

And just out of curiosity, how common are 14x7 +8 wheels for a KE70?

    Thanks very much,

    Ethan

inserts. basically all inserts for toyotas are the same, so you can x reference this sort of thing on some of the larger shock absorber manufacturers sites.

some car like ae92/st185/205 list full leg replacements, but (in the case of kyb agx i can say for sure) there is still a compatible insert within the supplied leg.

these are the common ones though. st185/205 sw20 and ae92.

ma61 wheels will work for you, other wise old hotwires and similar will be available in those sizes.

hit up some datsun sites to source those.

To risk sounding stupid, the leg is the fully assembled strut?

The height of the SW20 sounds good.

I've had a couple of parts places tell me they can only get a fully assembled strut ready to go in, not the insert? And also I'll assume the nut that holds the insert in the tube will be the same thread and diameter (43mm?) as the old XT130 item. I destroyed them when I got the old insert out

Never thought to look at the Datsun sites, thought I was running out of luck lol

better off finding a suspension shop/supplier that sells suspension inserts, go thru their catalog noting down the cartridge size and travel length, then try to source similar online or via same supplier.

Skip the ones saying they'll only supply a whole strut.

also double check the gland nut thread, sw20 inserts normally come with a 1.5mm pitch but you will need a 1mm pitch (pretty sure that's what they run) but other *T13# struts run different pitch threads also.

    cheers

well, if you do that, you miss out on pretty much all the good stuff.

also, unfortunately yes, the thread pitch is different on the agx, so if you go with those you will have to source a new not from somewhere.

try AJPS. they can also supply the inserts.

    Dont waste your time..
Go straight to these people with 2 old inserts and tell them what length you want and they will rebuild them to suit.Probably cheaper than a pair of monroes of the shelf.
They build bullett proof shockers,we use them on speedway and cant kill them.

Also, XT130 struts share the same diameter and gland nut thread with AE86 struts, so anything to suit AE86 will fit your XT130 struts.

I like the idea of getting the inserts rebuilt. The ones I did get out of the struts originally are cactus though.

Would anybody know any info on the AE92, ST162 or ST185 43mm nut thread. A lot of the AE86 info I can find says they can be used and they all seem to be in a reasonable stroke range (cant find anything on the AE92 though)

If the nut thread is the same as the XT130 (The struts may have been from a RT133) I'll get a pair of the ST162 Celica ones. Or I'll have to find a pair of XT130 43mm nuts somewhere else. Just praying there the same as the AE86 thread lol.

Thanks for the info guys its fantastic

If you have the existing gland nuts from the struts you are using, use those

EDIT: I see you are getting confused about nut thread. The thread of the gland nuts supplied with inserts is largely irrelevant, as it has no bearing of what struts you can put those inserts into. You just have to use the correct gland nuts for your struts, so if you don't have those already you will have to source some.

Now, some inserts like KYB are a tad narrower than stock, and may be a snugger fit (i.e., no chance for lateral movement) if you use the KYB gland nuts rather than, say, Monroe ones. It really shouldn't make any difference though, once it's all tightened together.

    easy,
step 1 put money into his account
step 2 wait 3 months for nothing to show up
step 3 make heaps of phonecalls before he finally say's that he will refund the money
step 4 get small amounts of money put into your account for 4 months b4 its all paid back

There sorta buggered, they were quite hard to get out because the nut bit welded to the thread was already broken when I picked them up from the wreckers. I used stilsons to get the threaded part out of the strut tubes.

I dont know how they were broken the struts were in good condition and the car was too I'm fairly sure
