can anyone else tell me whether it will be fine to just run the cable to the positive terminal on my coil, as i do not have a multimeter at the moment. will it effect the operrating of the coil?

still not sure in that regard mate, but a makeshift test light (globe, 2 bits of wire, ( one to a solid earth, and a second to whereever your testing) will give you a definant 12volt positive (98% of all positive signals in cars a 12V)

    hope that helps. Jamie

79GT - I'm Josh's partner in crime (we bought the Celica together) and I just went over his place, wired it to the coil and it works just fine. So I guess if it fucks out then we'll know that the coil was a bad choice, but until then it idles sweet as (with a bit of tweaking to the mixture/speed as well). Cheers for the advice!

I ran the 2 wires off my positive side of the coil and experienced no loss of power, someone recommended to me to run a relay for it that energises off the coil (+) so thats what i ended up doing.

There was no performance difference either way so what ever's easier

    mystery solved. cheers gearbox.
the relay is a good idea, especially if you find yourself in need of a few of ignition feeds in your engine bay.
