    Unhappy Bent valve???

Whenever I have the car running or turning over, I have fuel shooting out of my no. 1 cylinder through the carbies!

This seems to occur no matter where I have the timing!

My first guess is it's a bent valve... What else could be wrong here?

I just removed the cam cover and manually turned the motor and from above all looks to work correctly!

Obviously the valve could be stuck below...

you're 100% certain the spark plug's working? cos it happened to me i had plenty petrol shoot out of both carbies till i got the right timing and it just fired up all good.

maybe a compression test would be wise

Checking the compression would tell me if the valve isn't sealing, wouldn't it?

Ok... Looks like that re-build that I wanted to do is going to be pretty much straight up!

    Compression as follows:

    Cyl 4: 116

    Cyl 3: 136

    Cyl 2: 146

    Cyl 1: 0 (As suspected)

If a valve is stuck open, a good thrashing and heat cycling may very well free it.

And it should still start on 3cyls.

Also, when I took out the spark plug for cylinder 1, there was oil on the electrodes...

Maybe I'm incorrect, but this is not how it should be!

    Oil, or mucho fuel ?

Get it running, then diagnose the problems.

also the shim clearences on that cyl could be way off check 1st. from memory inlet is 9to 13 thou on base circle and exhaust is 11to 15 thou ,as if you have 0 clearence you will have 0 compression been there done that

get it hot and it will hopefully free it up a little atleast so you can get some compression, when it is hot try a wet test (put a small amount of oil in all cylinders before comp test) and see if the results are any higher. if results are higher then you would be looking at rings, and i not than it is probably a head problem.
