Default serious shaking on the steering wheel what could couse this?

hi, guys i had a crash up a high kerb .. pritty hard it hit my car side on and the tyre fell of the rim. the steering was seriously out of aignment so i wen to service centre to fix it and they did it seemed fine but now has gone bak out of align in like a few weeks. also not initialy after the crash or alignment infact about 3 months afterwoods my car shakes bad when going 100 kms or when braking heavyly or medium . this is probably a very obvious problem but im not that experianced with the driveline of a car. also i think the wheel bearing might be stuffed could this contribute? where could i get a new jzx90 wheel bearing from does it share same part as some other aus toyotas

THANKS guys any help would be more than aprecciated thankyou

Sounds like it is a wheel bearing, you should be able to get them new from CBC bearings or other bearing distributors, go direct to them rather than through a retailer ass you will find prices vary large amounts. As for others fitting from different models, others will know.

yeah i think you're wheel bearing is stuffed from the crash. check that the hub nut is still done up properly(ie the split pin is still there, if it is then that's ok) if that's loose cuz the split pin is gone/broken then that may be the problem, but i reckon the bearings themselves are on the way out.

thanks guys i was just reading it up on the net and ppl say it could be because of warped brak rotors beacause wen i brake it shakes. also couse my car only shakes between liek 80- 100 they think its beacause the tyre isnt on the wheel properly or the wheels are warped. the thing im stil unsure about is howcome my wheels went out of align so quikly think of anyreason to do with that liek something must be bent thanks!

Jack up the side that hit the curb and whack a stand under the body incase it falls off the jack.

Get someone to wobble the wheel in an up and down plane and a front to back plane while you watch all your movement joints (ball joints, steering knuckles, where hub sits up against spindle, etc) this will help isolate where the loosness is.

From there you can work out what needs fixing, may not be you wheel bearings.

i was gonna say that you could have a warped disc, but something in relation to the kerb crash sounds more likely, and generally won't cause the wheel alignment to wander(depends on severity)

you mean to say you hit side on as in.. it slide sideways into the gutter just like a car is parked on the side of the road? so your car didnt 'roll' up onto the gutter the rim actually hit side on?

    all just speculation here.. but
that'd cause some serious damage dood... (depending at what kinda speed it was) besides the obvious bearing/rim warp/tyre deformation you could have done some damage to lower control arm / axle spindle / castor rod / caused play in steering rack / strut top... etc... id get it inspected... its potentially dangerous.

all depending at what speed you hit ofcourse.

Wheel bearings don't cause shake, only let it shake more then it already is from another source - bent or out of balance or worn out joints.
Wheel alignment doesn't change by itself unless you've hit something, or worn joints getting worse.
Rotor warp will be felt in the pedal before its felt in the steering unless there are worn joints.

I think you've lost a wheel weight & worn out some joints that were already in poor condition.

When i had my old rims on they became buckled from all the pot holes and the steering wheel shook like crazy at 60km/h and then 110km/h it was just so bad i had to get rid of them, so it could be that...

Had a mate do this in a VS ute...

    He bent a control arm...

later on we found that the crossmember had been cracked in the same accident after some of the shaking did not disappear..

gutters can be real bastards when it comes to hitting them

things like this can be a real bitch to solve, almost as bad as a misfire...

I do agree with allencr tbh, there shouldnt be too much to cause it to happen

it could be bearings.. they can cause vibration when failing badly.
it could be a cracked hub,
    it could be busted rim...
    it could be many things...

after a gutter hit, you should inspect each and every part of the suspension to make sure something will not fail 3 months later

    good luck!

ok after all this info im gona look at it this week end .. crash has hapened it seemed ok but it progressevily got worse and worse and steering alignment wont stay aligned , im getting a lot of clues now. if the shaking is progresivly getting worse after the crash but didnt happen imediantly after it has to be somthing suffering from driving liek a bent rim wouldnt get worse after the crash it would just stay the same directly after the crash. so yer sounds to me like somethign getting more and more loose or bearings just getting more and more ground up. but ultimatly i just gota play aroudn with it soo ill see wat i can do thanks guys .

it could also be the fact your car isn't "square" anymore.. metal can be bent and fatigued...

if i were you i'd get this looked at... start by measuring the car and making sure the car is all straight.. crossmember and struts are all aligned right and there is no bend on any suspension components especially the suspension plate (if it has one).. then have a look at the brake's disc rotor and wheel bearing.. and may as well balance your wheel to see if it has buckled or out of balance..

and believe me a bent anything could get worse.. and ultimately break.. it's called fatigue and metal which has been impacted on will suffer this and give way...
