1. Reversing lights, speed sensor
Hey all,
I have put a 1JZ into my 180sx. Motor and box are from a JZX90 manuel chasser. Have recently wired up a Microtec to it but am starting to get out of my league. If anyone can help me with any advice it would be greatly appreciated.
1. There is a wiring loom coming off the gear box, what do these wires do and where would wire them to the 180?
2. There are two sensors situated in the outlet pipe above the water pump, are these important?
3. What is the green vertical signal wire going from the igniter to the stock ECU and do I need to wire it up to the microtec?
4. Should I bother to piggy back the standard ECU in my case?
Thanks for any help, plenty more questions to come.

1. Reversing lights, speed sensor
1. the loom for the gearbox is for the reverse lights, maybe speed sensor. you will need to wire up the reverse wires to the ones on the car. they will be in the trans tunnel somewhere. you would have had to remove them to get the old box out.
2. are these in the coolant pipe? if so then they are sensors for ECU and dash. one will need to go to MT and the other to dash
4. If you already have wired up a microtech, why would you want to piggy back the standard ECU. that is going backwards

IGF = Ignitor spark confirmation

thanks for the replies
how can i find out which wires from gearbox i should wire to reverse lights and which will be speedo?
so if this green wire from the igniter is igf or igt where does it need to go?
im thinking of piggybacking standard ecu to control idle up,air con knock sensors but im not sure if its gona work in a 180,any suggestions?
Reverse wires are pretty easy to find with a multimeter. Two of the wires will go closed-circuit when you select reverse.
As for the ignitor, if the wire in question is IGF you can just ignore it. If it's IGT this is the wire which tells the ignitor to fire, in which case you obviously need to hook it up to the Microtech.
Piggybacking the stock ECU sounds like a lot of trouble for little gain. The Microtech should be able to handle idle speed, and the aircon compressor can be controlled by your car's HVAC system (assuming your 180 originally came with aircon). AFAIK the engine ECU doesn't control the aircon at all, it just has an input to increase idle speed when the compressor is engaged.
As for knock sensing, this will only work if you let the stock ECU control the ignition timing... which sort of defeats the purpose of having a programmable ECU.

I agree with Norbie. Ditch the stock ecu altogether.
From memory, MT's can control the 20v 4age ISCV.
I don't have air con so I just ditched the ISC all together and adjusted the throttle stop.
hey guys thanks for the help so far, starting a new thread with pics soon called 1j 180sx
