I should give some reasons I guess....
I havn't looked into microtechs for a while (I was using an MT8 a while ago but pissed it off due to poor support from microtech) so for all I know they could be pretty good these days. I do however currently have an Autronic SMC, which although it's the cheapest/simplest Autronic available does a fantastic job of running my 4A, which of course mainly comes down to the tuning.
I can tell you though that with 550cc 13B turbo injectors (not the best injector for fine/small delivery, and of a single port design) my 4A manages very impressive fuel economy.
Also the cold start & idle quality is fantastic, even though many more hours could be spent on the Autronics cold start adjustments (which will/should happen one day).

Check out each website for features & fine tuning ability & the choice should become pretty clear. I must add the Autronic was a cinch to wire up too, although the same goes for the microtech. And if it comes down to just $500 difference, the extra money spent will be well worth it.

I have one of each, they both serve their purpose.

I do feel that the Autronic is a bit more refined than the microtech, it supports so many more functions and has loads more features (especially the SM4).

what does my Autronic do for my MKIV Supra (876HP-2JZGTE) ?
    idle control
boost control - no need for that expensive eboost
cruise control - used this all the way down the freeway to the dyno day
    A/C control
thermo fan control - 2 independent controls
    traction control
    launch control
    shift light
    flat shift
    antilag
closed loop O2 for that magic fuel economy down the freeway
    etc.

what does my microtech do for my RX3 coupe (400HP-13B turbo) ?
    thermo fan control.
I use eboost for boost control as microtech boost control is open loop and totally useless (adds $700 to price of ecu)

My advice is find out who you are going to get to tune your car and buy what they are familiar with.

The best computer in the world is no good if you have a monkey tuning it.

if you are going to do a price comparison, bang on the $700 for an eboost, everyone with a microtech has had to buy one eventually.
that said, I used a bleed off valve on my Supra at the dyno day, but now have the Autronic boost control hooked up, it works a treat and I can now jam some more boost into it

    one last thought,

Remember that the poor product remains long after the cheap price has been forgotten............

Rather than vote specifically for anything, I'll make the suggestion of getting hold of the software for each ECU in your price range, and having a good play with it. The software is usually available from the website.

Ahh you've been looking at the infamous Ray Hall "Autronic.com" website which strangely enough does not represent the true feature set of the SM4... many of the features mentioned do not exist / have not been programmed yet.
Ask Rod / SAS about the features you plan to use before coughing up the $$$ for one as you may be disappointed to find that some of the features you plan to use don't exist.
