    Default XT130 - starting probs

I have an intermittant problem with trying to start the car after motor is warm. I come back from a drive, turn the motor off, then try to start again and it wont turn over. Doesnt try to start at all, i here the starter relay click but nothing happens, lights on dash stay just as bright and wont dim, as if there is no power reaching the starter motor, but using my multimeter tells me there is the same voltage as at the battery, and soleniod wire gets power when i turn the ignition to start. Any ideas?

starter motor solenoid is on the way out - or the contacts inside it are too heavily pitted to allow current to flow to the starter motor,

remove solenoid and starter motor and replace with an exchange unit - is not worth the bother of repairing (and most solenoids are sealed unit anyway).

How many volts are you getting at the solenoid wire (small one) ?
Could also be the main power wire to the starter breaking down under load, check resistance of the wire to the battery when turning over the car.
Another possibility is its just gummed up with clutch dust.

It is possible that it has voltage drop on the switch wire to the starter motor. This is easily fixed by fitting a starter relay.
To check it, when it plays up try putting power to the switch wire direct from the battery. If it wont start from the key but does with the wire from the battery then it needs a starter relay. If not then it probably needs the starter replaced.

Thanks for all the replies/suggestions. I pulled the drivers kickpanel off (got 4" speaker in there) and noticed the magnet to the speaker had slightly knocked the plug into a relay (starter relay i think). It doesnt do it anymore but i'll prob check that starter motor and starter relay out. Thanks
