Default ae92 hatch/sedan seatbelts? the same?

A friend went to put the seatbelt on last night and it wont work. I looked at the point where it is in the boot and fiddled around and it looks exactly as it does on the driver side. But the driver side rear seatbelt works (it comes out and goes back in). the side that doesn't work feels like it is permanently stuck, it wont budge (moves about 1cm and then stops)

the car is an ae92 corolla sedan. anyone had this problem before or know how to fix it?

sorry if this isnt explained very well, I can get some photos up if need be.

sounds like the safety lock has become jammed on. you may have to remove the belt and tyr to pull on it at a different angle, often this can release the mechanism.

otherwise it may be time for a new belt

Ive had this twice in my aw11. Take aprt the lock mechanism inspect its contents.

To fix mine I had to make a slight adjustment to the little plastic pin that locks the cog when theres an impact .

Second time i just took out the unit, dismantled it and re-assembled it and it worked fine after that. remember they only work on the angle that the factory moiunt provides....

Might be time for a new seatbelt.
But before you go and buy one, just give the panel a fair hit with your hand that houses the retracting reel, and also they sometimes won't work if your parked on a slope.
I strongly urge you not to dismantle the reel yourself, this is a seatbelt. It is there to save your life, one wrong bit and it's all over.

i unbolted it from the side of the car and played around with pulling it at different angles and the mechanism seems to be rooted (permanently stuck) so im trying to find a new seatbelt to stick in there. I was quoted $207 for a new one + installation. Is it hard to install them yourself?

gez, it's a good possibility that they could fit, but I would just go and try and get the right one the first time around to save time incase it's the wronge length or incorrect mounts.
I'm a mechanic so this is all easy stuff for me mate, I'm just trying to get enough rep points so I can off load some celica stuff I've hid for 6 years.
    Good luck mate

Sorry, I do not what the seat belts are the same.

I have an AE82 and I had a similar issue. I had to get a little screwdriver and prise apart the seatbelt mechanism at one end. This allowed access to the mechanism that makes it 'lock'. From here I looked at how it works and fiddled with it a bit and it now works.

This took about 20 minutes, the hardest part was getting the cap off the mechanism to get access.

    This may save you dollars.

Looking at you avatar, is that from the Rainbow bakery at Ulladulla, how good is that place!

    Good luck

I do not know if the AE92 has the same mechanism but it must be similar.

I do not have a photo but it was on the end illustrated in the diagram attached.

Sorry, I can not use any more advanced CAD other than paint.

I used 2 jewellers screwdrivers. the little itty bitty ones as leavers. I am sure that is what they are also designed for, look for little plastic tabs.

I found inside a big green ball thing that I could hold to then adjust how it all worked. If you are careful you will work it out. It took me 2 years before I got around to trying to fix it. Best thing was I never had to drive to the pub as I had no back seat!

The Rainbow bakery at Ulladulla is awesome, they have the same lettering and colouring as your sticker, near some nice roads as well!
