I'm happy with the 3.909 ratio it comes with. But this diff has been rebuilt at some stage (there's gasket paper hanging out of the centre) so i'm not 100% sure on what ring/pinion is in there now. I'll probably be getting a True Trac centre for it seeing as they're a fair bit cheaper than the clutch pack units.

Question Re: T,F or G series? What to choose?

For the RA28, I'm constantly changing my mind on what I want for the diff!

    Want 5x114.3 (F and G, good)
Want Factory Discs (G series would need a disc conversion, doh)
Want LSD Centre (F and G seem similarly priced for true-tracs, what about clutch-types?)
Want Tall Ratio (3.5ish? F and G ok, G's cheaper?)
    Want as narrow as possible! - 1370mm (G series, yeah, F-series doh? MS112 is 1410 MX13 similar?)

I agree! I want as deep a dish as possible on the back of the RA28, if I used an F wouldnt I almost certainly have to shorten it to achieve this ...

I keep asking myself if the cost is worth the weight saving ...
The _very rough_ drum-to-drum figures in my head for the respective weights of the diff assemblies are T-series 62kgs, F-series 75kgs and G-series 85kgs.
Given that I will probably need to shorten an F-series for my application, G-series ratios and LSDs are easier to find, I think perhaps the extra 10kgs unsprung (over an F), and need for a disc conversion puts the G-series in position 1

    Anyone see any errors?

look at your priorities as to whether you want it cheap, effective, minimal work, or looks (width to suit wheels). then sum up the options.

the option i took is the MX13 diff housing with MA61 LSD and RT142 disk brakes. all bolts together except for the mounts and they were PISS EASY to change due to the RA40 being identical width. i take it this is no good to you because its not 5 stud, so what have you got left.... MS112 or hilux.

option 1. MS112 crown diff; this diff is said t obe 1450 wide, that makes it 38mm wider each side than factory (1450 -1375 /2). thats probly to much to correct width wheel offset so it would have to be shortened. sorry i have no idea what places charge to shorten - someone could fill in here. mounts still have to transferred however.

option2. hilux diff; for starters it the perfect width for an RA28/23 but the only problem is its non disk. there is an article on how to convert to disk ( http://www4.tpgi.com.au/users/loats/...hiluxdiff.html ) but that costs money as well.

so its basically price to shorten MS112 diff Vs. price to convert hilux diff to disk (~$500 as per article).

in the end you will have esentially have the same diff no matter which one you have.
    1. strength - both really strong, hilux slightly stronger. not that it matters much though unless you have mega super power
    2. both disk brake
    3. LSD's available for both - similar price
    4. same width - u can run the dish wheels
    5. weight - crown diff is ~10kg heavier. depends if your a keen circuit racer whether this matters

so yeh, thats about all i can think if
