Default 1G front main seal advice

    Hey,
Just have the front off my 1GGZE, doing new water pump and new oil pump. While i'm at it, thinking of doing the front mail seal as well, so, by the looks of things, that lower alloy piece (that everything bolts to) has to be removed (that covers the crank and houses the seal). Just want to confirm with someone who has done it, and whether front mains can be trouble later on and should be replaced at a time like this.

    Thanks
    Glen.

You dont have to take the alloy cover off. Just hit (sharp) screwdriver through the seal and pop it off. Be carefull not to damage the seal housing or the crank shaft. It's too easy and cheap not to replace the seal while your at it...

You can also drill some small holes into the seal and use a long self tapping or wood screw to pull it out.

I've generally found hitting and screwing aren't needed, that a little careful use of small screwdrivers should pop it out right where you need it.

As said above just gently push screwdriver in and then pop it out, if your going to the trouble of replacing it make sure you use a decent quality seal. I always prefer to use a viton seal for front and rear mains if they avail from your seal supplier.

So, just push into the soft part of the seal on the inside? I ended up getting one from toyota with some other parts.

    yeah, that's right.

And yes, it's a good idea to replace it while you can.
