    Default altenator regulator replacement

    hi

mum's 94 corolla has the battery light comming up on the dash, have traced it down to the altanator regulator being faulty.... if i source another one, how difficult are these to install?

any specific guides out there? websites etc?

    cheers

it depends. there are quite a few alternators that have the reg sitting on the back. on these, its as easy as undoing to small screws, removing the old reg and fitting the new one.

best idea to have the battery disconnected for this job too!

im not to sure of the alternator you speak of tho, if its internal and needs the alternator to be pulled apart

They're quite easy to change over, it's finding a new voltage regulator & brushes (as they're usually replaced at the same time, as they both come off together) that is the hard part, most quotes I've had are pretty pricey.
If you do manage to find one it's just a matter of removing the alt, then undoing 3 nuts and the nut on the terminal post to remove the rear cover, then 5 screws to remove the volt reg & the brush holder.

There was a corolla manual on the old website, but I don't know where that's gone now.

Its probally a bosch alt so just go to bursons and get a RA 60 reg , 2 screws and its done dont even have to remove the alt.
make sure the battery is disconected !!!

wonder why it;s so hard to get replacement brushes for 3sge alternators. Can't seem to get them anywhere including toyota.

Also my 1jz alternator light came on last night while driving home in the dark, lights were so dim, lucky to get home driving on the battery. I checked it out best i could today and the alternator is pretty well covered in steering fluid. I'm getting no charge to the battery, But it looks as if its been that way for awhile. Hmm guess i'll just have to pull it down clean it up and check the brushes while i'm at it.

(big rep for anyone that can get new brushes for toyo alternators.)

I replaced 2 regulators on our Camry 3S-FE which were a known weakness. i went to Toyota and got a Bosch genuine replacement. Second time got one from Repco.

For a while every time I went to Pickies I'd rip apart a few alternators & pocket the brushes & volt. regs., eventually I found one with massive brushes & this did the job for a while.
Then after going through about 5 or 6 different regs & when I was putting together my new motor I splashed out & bought a whole new alternator, which wasn't much more than what I was quoted for new brushes & a volt. reg.

well i checked out my 1jz alterantor and i think i have found the issue, it is caked up with power steering fluid, which has been leaking from the hydrualic cooling fan, i wondered where it kept going (been having to top it up weekly, found the leak too which is good)

So i am completly out of action unless pulling the alternator apart cleaning it all out and assembling back together fixes it. (will find out tommorow i guess)

Still would love to find where to get replacement bushes for these nippon denso alternators.
