Well I received my machined cams back yesterday.

My mechanic got me some seals that fit the 2jz ID and the 1jz OD. The part number is TC12549

I have test fitted the cams in my spare head and all seem to fit perfectly. So the only thing he had to do was take 2.5mm off the first cam journal on the exhaust cam and get these seals. Should be able to get them from any auto place.

Here are the pics. As you can see the exhaust cam now sits flush as it is meant to as the excess material has been removed.

    Sweet dude

Do you want to rip out a dial gauge, a stand and a cam degree wheel and make a plot of each cam!? Quantify duration / lift for each.

Or has someone already profiled both 1jzgte and 2jzgte stock cams?

    Cheers

too much work, not enough time! Plus don't have those tools.

Have already worked out the peak lift for both and I know the advertised duration but not the from .050" lift.

You can come around and do it if you want

BTW fella who is looking at my old turbo is running 1jz-ge cams in his 1jz hilux that has run 12.8X on stock twins. I will see what he had to do in the end to get them in there.

Just to clarfy. All that is needed is 2.5mm removed from the exhaust cam as the front journal is smaller on the 2JZ cam. (not the diameter of the shaft but the width of the surface).

You then need some seals and thats it? You don't need any new cam caps or anything? Were your shims alright?

G'day fellas. Anyone done this yet? I keep hearing heaps about it but I haven't heard of anyone that's actually completed the swap. I would like to here from anyone else than has done this mod. I would love to see some results.

Anyhow. I got some USDM 2JZ cams for my JDM 2JZ. The exhaust cams are identical though. So I just fitted the intake cam with its extra 0.45mm (or so) of lift and 10 deg duration.

This left me with a set of JDM spec supra cams. (almost as good of an upgrade as the USDM cams for a 1JZ)

An hour or so later we had the intake cam fitted into my brothers soarer with the correct cam seal. Fits no probs. (thanks for putting up the part number Chris) Its really easy to swap cams on a JZ. It's done in like 2 hours.

I am still not sure where you removed material Chris. These are our findings.

    See pics.

Haven't installed mine yet. Cihan Aday ordered 5 sets from the US to install. He is on SC.com. If you used the cam seal I said then you wouldn't have to modify the inlet cam at all. The exhaust cam is the one that needs the journal widened to physically fit in the head.

The reason I haven't done it yet is that I have changed turbo and fuel and I wanted to get a good tune into it first and hopefully get a run or dyno in to do a pre and post comparison but I am running out of time.

Yeah I posted on SC too. Yes the intake cam fitted right in with the seals. But Cihan and his Maurice reckon that the intake cam needs an oil gallery machined out or the cam will not get oil pressure? I will go to my brothers and take another look.

Also, did you machine the exhaust cam in the position I described? I thought you machined it from the other side?

Just took another look. It looks like the oil supply gallery lines up about half way (the journal with the slot at the rear). It would probably be OK, but we will just make the slot a bit bigger so that the oil can flow unrestricted into the cam. Can't see the point in welding anything up. 1.5mm less surface area isn't going to hurt it IMO.

Yeah Cihan asked me about that. I asked Cary from USA who has done a heap of them and he said he hasn't ever done anything re the oil flow. Just machined the sections that need to be so that it fits in the spots. No issues on SF.com so far.
