    Default Quick Solex Question

Okay, I've done a very basic idle adjustment on my twin Solex's.
(This is on a 21/22r hybrid btw)

now one thing I have noticed is, the car won't idle properly with the chokes closed (cold or warm) however it idles fine with them open.

Now if I drive the car with the chokes open, it sounds like it leans out, or runs out of fuel when you start building the revs up(due to the mass amount of air being taken in? I'm not very good with these carbs yet )

If I manage to keep the car running with the chokes closed, it runs decently, it still stutters, but not as hard as it was before.

Can't remember my secondary jet sizes, but primary jet size has 075 on it (0.75mm??)

I'm tempted to take it to get a proper tune, but seeing if a little bit of handy work can save me a few bucks!

P.S Twin carbs sound great under load! I'm in love!!!

Just trying to get the full picture I'm not expert but to me sounds like your jetting is incorrect or your idle mixture screws are set incorrectly.

Need some background information has this engine configuration ever ran with this carbies 'properly'?.

Have the Carbies been jetted for the engine? If not either get a Dyno a tune or find some way of measuring your AFR to workout if it's running lean or rich. And do it ASAP as it could destroy your engine.

Pilot jet size would need to be #62.5, #63.8(OEM 18R-G) or #65.

Idle Mixture screws 1.5 turns out and within half a turn from this.

If you have S4 or S5 (cannot recall what you have) from a 2T-G then Pilot jet size would have been #57.5 too lean for a 2.2lt engine hence the use of some starter makes it rich enough to idle and run at lower speeds.

Once you report what you have jets, size wise then we can procede.

The 075 is most likely 175 and is the Main Air Jet size of 1.75mm the top jet sitting on the Jet Block (if indeed is th eone you are looking at). This would be a good size to run and use a #140 Main Jet, the one at the bottom of the Jet Block.

    Thanks Rodger,

By the way, I almost have some cad drawings done of the OEM solex arms =) So I'm hoping my machinist can cut me a few! I don't want the old twin-carbs to die off!!

Yes, 175 is stamped on the jet that is screwed into another jet... I didn't get a chance to read what was stamped on the main jet or pilot's

I will inspect tonight or tomorrow (car is at the workshop getting a wheel alignment at the moment)

How does the choke system work in this? Does it allow more fuel into the mixture? Or does it allow more air in? Because with the chokes open there is a more notable breathing noise while cranking (couldn't explain it any better if i tried sorry )

At any rate, is it hard to find the correct pilot jets? I will probably need larger ones from what you are telling me.

    Regards,
