to keep asci pics aligned.. white dots often help with spacing..
Now it could be my limited way of knowing HTML speak that is letting me down but i have been wanting to do posts in the past that would include equal spacing letters for pretty ascii pictures.
I was able to work it out on the old forums no worries but i tried the same approach on this forum but didn't have as much success.
Is it possible if someone with a good background on the html lingo could write a nice tute post that just shows what is possible to write in these forums and how to do it.
also i don't know if it is of any worth but there could be a section on the forums where we could test this code out before posting our thread proper to make sure it is right..
is anyone able to help out?
something like:
to make a colour post do the following
this is blue text
this is blue text (i spelt it wrong so you can see the actual code you need to write)
here are the possible options you can choose from : blue, red, green etc...
to change the size do this etc.
I know that there are buttons for a lot of this stuff in the editiing window but it would be useful to know what is capable beyond what buttons are provided...well i thought so anyway. something beyond just a link to another web page, something that could even possibly be a sticky or part of the section for testing text if you wanted to do that.
just a thought...
and yes you can shoot me if it is here somewhere but i obviously haven't looked hard enough

To space the text properly, use Courier New as the font.
And if you click the "Switch Editor Mode" button on the top right of the reply screen, you can see the changes in WYSIWYG form.

if you use the 'post a reply' button instead of using the quick reply, you find there is a 'Preview Post' button at the bottom of the page
make good use of this![]()
Or just click the Go Advanced button.

just a thought really to see what is possible with a post.
what you mentioned to me nark is great, use 'courier new' for spacing correctly.
Maybe it is just me that likes to know how things work in the background and to be presented a big fat list of options and examples of each to see what possibilities i can make for a post.
Yeah I used the preview thing a bunch of times trying to figure out the ascii spacing thing as it was and that is what triggered me to write this, looking at a list and playing with it....meh might be just me.
Cheers guys for the help.
OT: hey i just noticed the buttons in the editor change depending on if i am using firefox or IE6
in firefox i have increase size and decrease size buttons (and the switch editor mode like you mentioned) in the top right of the editor screen
but in ie 6 i have broken picture links that are for spelling checking and for the editor mode (and a broken link for attachments in the general toolbars bit).

IE also doesn't have the spellcheck button, and Firefox shrinks this dialogue box I'm typing in to the shithouse when I move my mouse over the increase/decrease buttons.Originally Posted by barned01
