Default What gearboxes will fit a KE70 tunnel without modification?

Hey all, considering rotarizing my KE70. Only because a 12a came up cheap so seeing the viability of this.
I'm under the impression that the Gen 1 RX-7 boxes are too big to fit the trans tunnel without cutting and welding unless you want the box on a crazy angle. I don't want to go to this extent so I was wondering what else would fit. (if this is wrong, let me know!)

I was thinking of using a W50 through an adaptor plate, are these easy enough to fit into the tunnel, any modifications required to the tunnel itself? Its my understanding they'd withstand a bit of abuse..? 200hp tops at the engine.

Any other ideas? Rotaries into KE70's don't seem to be that popular and as such haven't been able to find out a lot of info about the conversion.

    Cheers

W50 could be a goer, or maybe a W55/7/8 would be suitable too. They'll all fit without too much effort. The Mazda box would probably fit with a little help from Dr. Hammer, too.

have you actually seen the two gearboxes??

from memory the 12A g/box is heavier than the T50, but if i remember correctly it's smaller... erm.. i'd suggest you try to measure up.. argh i should've taken pics because i've doen the clutches on both the 4A-C and 12A....

sorry if i'm wrong though but yea i'm 95% sure the 12A box is smaller..

isn't the issue the position of the rotary crank compared to piston motor? so the box has to be located higher?

Yeah, I believe that is one of the problems. So either mount the engine lower or hack the tunnel... But I remember reading that someone decided to hack the tunnel as they had to to fit the box anyway

And no, I haven't got any measurements yet. Only started contemplaying this yesterday.
