Have heard Spinning wheel have a guy that is very good with alignments.
Steve if you are looking for someone closer to you. Bridgestone tyres at Smithfield do a good job (Search for BT Motorsport).
If in doubt power out
thanks for the tips
anyone got any ideas about modifying the clear cover on an instrument cluster?
Trying to fit the Elantra cluster into the Excel dash. It's wider and slightly less round at the ends. If I remove the Excel cluster surround, & the clear cover & shroud off the Elantra cluster, it fits, but then the gauges aren't protected...
perspex + superglue + dremel
N/A for life...
The problem is that a Stack dash is smaller than the hole.
The cluster I want to fit is bigger than the hole. even with the cluster surround removed
Uploaded with ImageShack.us
So this means that I need to trim the dash board skin back. It's only plastic. But an unbroken Excel dash skin is hard to find nowadays (and therefore can cost a bit), and I can't remove the dash skin any more due to the roll cage...
I'm still trying to make everything reversible in case someone happens to want to buy all my modifications
seriously steve, get a dremel, fit small sanding bit and away you go. it will mack short work of the plastic.
N/A for life...
Or if you're really worried about your uncracked dash, buy a cheap cracked one to dremel and swap into the track car?
The guilt from hacking is shortlived, and once it's done you feel much less worried about the next bigger and better hack job.
I have a few clips uploaded to youtube now - my first efforts with RaceRender so be nice! But feedback is more than welcome; am still just trying a few things and have barely explored the features;

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O6wWyX9lC5Q <---this has my fastest lap of the day, a 1:16.25; 0.06 off my PB - happy considering the tyres were on their last legs.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3R8spGjU06M <--- this one probably has my epic skillz on display the best; there was a brief stoppage mid-session that required two gopro clips, re-aligning the data feed and playing a bit with the lap timing display - as opposed to synchronising, trimming, exporting, profit.

Couple more; after the first session (which i think is this first one here), i'm pretty much loading a custom template i saved so it's a faster process - seriously cool bit of software, especially for the money! Gopro + RaceChrono (free) + RaceRender and the possibilities are endless; might even check it out for some mountain biking stuff - unless the Google Mytracks software gives me a usable data file.
The thing that blew me away the most was that i'm using my phone with a bluetooth gps dongle for position, speed etc - but because the features are there i was recording the gyro data just to check it out. I'd actually forgotten i'd turned it on in the software at first, so had given no thought to the positioning, orientation etc. Using it was a bit of an afterthought after i found the data in the file - the phone (using it's internal sensors) was placed inside my floor carpet, between the carpet and underlay (there's a hole in the join that makes a tidy little pocket) where the carpet comes up the side of the centre console from my footwell.
Anyway, point is, the phone was on it's side, pointing diagonally down and forward, and the software automatically orientated it to the axes of the car. All i had to do was flip the longitudinal axis to get it to display correctly.
Doesn't take too much effort to set everything up either, i'm heaps faster now than the first clip - most of the time is synchronising as it's a manual process, but you get the hang of it. It even has video editing in it so you don't even need to use the gopro cineform or similar to make tweaks and edit the video (which i haven't done at all for any of these). Oh and it can do several simultaneous video feeds, so i might not be selling the old gopro when i upgrade...

Was going to ask about how you did the speed & G-force display. It adds a nice touch.
On the hunt for a cracked dashed, but I'm pretty sure I can't get the dash skin out without removing the front legs of the roll cage. Cos its a 6 point bolt in. Will check this one though. Mightn't be that hard cos its a bolt in cage.
Dates for next year - put them in your calendars!
1. 31/01/14
2. 30/05/14
3. 08/08/14
4. 07/11/14
Yeah yeah, January etc, but we get what we can depending on what's available on Fridays, so we occasionally get bumped for proper events. Should still be a good way to see in the new year - just back from holidays and Oz Day, not yet properly settled in to work...
