Hi,
Can anyone confirm if a 2TG Kameari tensioner will fit onto a 3T GTE head?
Kameari say it doesn't but I'm not convinced as the heads look identical. Eg for heads with the oval plate cover.
Cheers,
Simon

I'll do some more research. I'm sure it wouldn't take much to get it to work. I think I'll buy one anyway and give it a go....
I emailed Kameari and they say straight out it won't fit! Very strange...
Just to clarify what I have said above,
2tg and 3tgte oval inspection plate share the same part number
2tg and 3tgte oval inspection plate gasket share the same part number
Based on this the it safe to say the oval tensioner is going to bolt in.
2tg and 3tgte share the same oem tensioner.
Check if the 2tg and 3tgte run the same chain and guides and sliper, if this is the case I would suggest it is a bolt in afair.
Kameari are US? if so they would not have seen that many 3tgte's
Since heads, cams are interchangleable I doubt Toyota have changed the timing stuff too much.
Any one know if the timing covers are interchangable?
Roger
The timing covers are interchangeable and i have used 3tgte guides and slipper in a 2tg not sure if the chains are the same but i assume they would be as everything else is the same.
Cheers
Dave
These are made in Japan, the guys know about the 3T GTE so its odd how they seem so sure it won't fit. I think the 2TG tensioner does have minor differences with the 3T GTE. From memory the shaft length is longer on the 3T GTE, maybe thats the issue?
This is an expensive item, not sure many people have done this at this point...
TA22 GT,
http://www.toyodiy.com/ shows the slipper and tensioner 2 to be the same part number between 2tg and 3tgte, there is a difference with the early model, but the later oval model has the same numbers, it would seem to me all parts inside are the same. I would put all of the above this to the kameari folk and ask what stops it from going on the 3tgte? because looks to me as if it could.
Yes an expensive item but looks to be a good solution in light slipper avaliability
Roger
Hi Roger,
I've done that but Kameari still say is won't fit. They dont seem to want to discuss why...Anyway, I think I'll buy one anyway and then I'll know for sure. But like you I really can't see why it wont bolt straight in....
I have it on my 3tgteu. Will post pics soon. I am not running the stock dizzy that could be an issue? Also I bought one of there "wham dango" top chains when I bought the tensioner and noticed it was supper tight. I kind of figured it was because of the new chain?

hmmm
does that mean that there is a potential this could work for an 18RG?
from memory the plate cover is also the same (although the slipper was different but the tensioner was the same)
Hardly any slack. It tensions the chain from left (loose) to right (tight). (zinc coated thing) With the Kameari chain I was at the least amount of tension (all the way left) and still had a time getting the cam sprockets on. The chain and tensioner say in the instructions that the chain will stretch some after 500 KM and requires adjusting. That is why I am not sweating it being tight. Also when I sent Kameari a picture of the setup they didn't say anything about it not fitting the 3tgteu. Just said thanks for buying there product.

For what I looked at on diytoyota diagrams the 2tgeu and 3tgteu have the same part number chain and tensioner. What you might have seen is one from another engine the 5me used a similar tensioner or one from an HKS or TRD kit. Back in the day when you bought a Idler gear like you got a new tensioner because the idler eliminates the right slipper (guide).
I have a shaved head but thick copper head gasket. That could be causing the tightness. Also notice I have both products so no more factory chain guides. I really think this should work on any 3tgteu, 2tg, or 2tgteu. Just need more people to confirm.
