Default ToyotaFest 2006 - The Roadtrip

    Hey all,

Just thought I'd start a thread about this in the WA section, because I've been getting quite a few questions from people interested about this.

    The Background
CrUZida and I originally had the idea of driving to Sydney for ToyotaFest, because we weren't going to make Nationals. Along the way, a couple of other people expressed interest and built from there, to the point that i'm now making this thread.

    The Plan
Dates yet to be decided, but the plan is to leave from Perth sometime before ToyotaFest in October, drive across the Nullabor, stop off in Adelaide to catch up with the SA boys, and pick up a couple of the miscreants who want to join our convoy to Sydney.

    What are we doing there?
ToyotaFest is on the Sunday of a long weekend, we're then planning to go to the Lowenbrau Keller for dinner (and copious amounts of beer) with a bunch of the Toymods guys, followed by a trip to WSID on the Wednesday night for a couple of grudge matches.

    Accomodation
Everyone is to organise their own accomodation. Will leave that up to individuals. I personally am going to be hitting up a fellow Toymodder to put me up

    Who is coming
I'll endeavour to keep this list updated, but here is the current list as of March 21st:
    JustCallMeFrank
    CrUZida
    coff33 w/ Brian

    When is all this happening
    23rd September - Leave Perth
25th September - Arrive in Adelaide
27th September - Arrive in Melbourne
28th September - Arrive in Canberra
29th September - Arrive in Sydney

    Ze Journey
As planned, we will be leaving on the 23rd of September, which is a Saturday morning, about 5-6AM in the morning. First day is the biggie, driving from Perth to Madura. From there we shall depart early again, via the Nullabor cliffs just out of Eucla and onto Ceduna. The next stop will be Adelaide on the 25th. We'll stay there for the night, then progress to Warrnambool for the next night, which leaves us the day of the 27th to drive the Great Ocean Road and meander our way into Melbourne for the night. The following day, we'll be B-lining it up straight from Melbourne to Sydney to arrive in our nations largest on the evening of the 28th, where we will proceed to relax and have good times.
Toyotafest is on the Sunday the 1st of October, Lowenbrau is on the Monday evening of the 2nd, WSID is on the Wednesday the 4th. Current plan is to leave on the Thursday morning the 5th. I haven't gone through the route home yet, but it will be a lot shorter than the way there, planning to arrive home on Sunday the 8th of October.

Anyone has stuff to discuss or any suggestions then fire away and we can all discuss them. In particular, looking for what sorts of dates people think we should leave/return. Looking forward to a kickass experience crossing with a gang of the Toymods guys.

    Cheers,
    Nathan

Thought this may be the case, where would you like to meet up? We're not planning at this stage to go to Melbourne because it's a BIG detour.

Those of us not staying with friends/family, are we just going to get some rooms in the same motel or something so we stay in the same area?
I don't know anyone there and have never been there so I'll be a newbie there...lol...I believe I need lots of coins in the car tho for toll booths yea?

You'll save money on towing....not to mention all the extra time you'll have not spent working on it.

May I suggest that the cars going be equipped with CB radios, even if it's just hand held ones? A very usefull tool during cruises, it would make communicating among the convoy alot easier
I'll be getting an in-car one for greater range like in my previous car and mounting a short aerial in the middle of the parcel shelf.

The only problem I can see with John and I sleeping on the floor is not getting to bed till 4am, just talking and shouting random antics eg: chewbakka noises, squeeks, lots of chappelle show antics etc. But we would be happy to sleep on your floor in bags of cotten

What happens when you're sleeping in the Soarer on the way there?

You biatch slap Matt in the back of the head and chuck the gearbox into reverse with your foot at 150km/ph? lol j/k
