Default help with factory alarm (95 camry)

    hi all
ive got a 95 camry daily driver and i have a problem

i broke the remote for the factory alarm and now i cant start it..

is there away to disable the factory anti theft ??

i broke the remote ages ago and have been able to drive it fine because i never turned it on

however this morning i took the battery out of the car and when i put the new one in the anti theft system

    armed itself.....

If the factory remote battery goes flat or the signal is blocked by something (areas of high RF interference like broadcast towers or high-voltage powerlines can do it) then you can still unlock the car with the keys but the immobiliser will still be active, which is what is stopping you from starting the car. You can get around this by either waiting half an hour after unlocking with the keys before attempting to start, or check the glovebox for a little socket which you can push the remote into to disable the immobiliser. Note that I think this only works on the lower-spec models (it does on my parent's '96 CSi) that don't have a full security alarm system, just the basic remote central locking/immobiliser/horn alarm instead of an aftermarket-style chirp w/ glass breakage sensors etc.

It also helps to read the comprehensive instructions in the owners book.

Not everyone still has the original manual, especially if they're not the original owner...

So you've tried putting the remote in the slot? You don't have to physically press the button or anything, there are two contacts on the nose of the remote which touch contacts in the slot - this will disable the immobiliser and also allow you to change settings like remote unlocking procedure, horn chirp etc by using the central locking switch and the security light.
