You can get a 4.7 and 10uf to make the 15uf and a 33uf in the bi-polar series capsOriginally Posted by Mr DOHC

The nichicons and Rubicons from RS Components (or Farnell) are far superior in ripple response and temperature rating and stability than the generics from the smaller stores. Not saying that those from Dick Smith or Jaycar won't work, more that I'm a pedantic perfectionist..
Oh, RS have a 15uf capacitior. RS Components part no: 491-0412

Heh, RS at Archerfield almost know me by name... I'm always in there getting something or other.
Check out my site for a basic walkthrough on the AE92 and AE101 GZE ECU's. Basic procedure is the same for all ECU's, your capacitors will just be slightly different values.

You guys really know your stuff. I have a JZX90 mid 90's MarKII and it sounds like a bit of preventative maintenance is in order. Thanks for the meaty technical content. Beats bullshit any time.
i know this is diggin up an old thread but i am having terrible trouble with my 1j mx83 and is pretty much undriveable... creating no power, making boost but feels like its missing on 3-4 cylinders... and producing a fair bit of smoke... my ECU is a 89540-22150 was just hoping someone had an ECU for me to try and see if its the problem or if anyone thinks i should replace the capacitors and see how it goes... havent pulled any codes out of it yet as its that bad to drive so havent got to a toyota dealership...
You can pull codes without driving to the dealership. You short two terminals in the diagnostic box (not sure which - will put up when i find them) and count the check engine light flashes.
5 flash, small pause, 4 flash = 54 (there will be a list of them somewhere too)
it will repeat untill all codes are displayed for which i assume it starts again (someone confirm?). you can then clear them by pulling the efi fuse as most stay in till erased in this way.
And if you dont have a diagnostics box, the terminals exist on the ecy plugs so able to be accessed there (and you will see why people use the diagnostics box!)
Here you go - http://www.troublecodes.net/Toyota/
Bend a paperclip in a U shape, and stick one end into TE1 and the other into E1. Turn ignition to ON but don't start car. Count flashes as above.

12.36 @ 111mph on eBay "China" CT12A steelies
244rwkw / 328hp @ 18psi
ok so i will then be able to cross section those numbers to a trouble code to find the potential cause of my problem...
in an mx83 will the diag box be under the dash assembly on RHS???
should be in the engine bay - did you wire it up with the 1jz?
