hey as you might no i have a 1986 4age corolla and in previous forms i have posted things about it not starting, well today i done the engine diagnostics thing and got a code 3 and i found out that code 3 is something to do with the ignition well SOMETHING.Now i have replaced all the wiring, the coil ive tried a second igniter, new spark plugs and leads
and laugh laugh still no go it still winds ova
the story behind this engine is the last ond done a bottom end bearing so i installed this 1 i did the last 1 as well..and now it wont start
ant ideas
wat a code 3 could point at..

When you plug the e1 to whatever and the check engine light beeps it will beep a few times at .5 second intervals for the first number then pause for 1.5 seconds, then beep a second lot of times at .5 second intervals also. First lot of beeps indicates 10's then second lot indicates 1's. So if it beeps twice then pauses followed by 2 beeps again then thats fault 22. Get me?
4AGE Engine Fault codes are as follows:
12, 13 - Engine speed signal circuit
14 - Ignition signal circuit
21 - Oxygen sendor circuit
22 - Coolant temp sensor circuit
24 - Intake air temp sensor circuit
25 - Oxygen sensor circuit - Lean
26 Oxygen sensor circuit - Rich
31 - MAP sensor circuit
41 - TPS sensor circuit
42 - Vehicle speed sensor circuit
43 - Start signal circuit
51 - Load signal circuit
That is all - Leeroy
p.s make sure nothing is on or 51 will come up. This includes air con, not ebing in neutral, low batt voltage, throttle body incorrect positioning

so.. your car is cranking, but you're not getting any spark? (I assume this has been narrowed down to the only problem. ie: fuel injectors are pulsing, etc).
have you checked the signal going to the coil? perhaps the dizzy is not a happy chappy?
did you follow everything we suggested in the last thread??
the last thing i remember was the grounds.. did u get all the negative contact sorted out??
from the begining again.. please tick off what u've checked and sure is working
1. dizzy is okay and in correct position and base timing / TDC set correctly
2. the coil produces spark, and is ground properly
(basically eliminate everything so spark exists)
3. ignitor is good to go
4. fuel is getting to the engine
5. fuel pump works
6. dun worry about injectors for now, worse case petrol is getting through the rails and at least something if not enough is going through the injectors. All 4 failing? wow..
7. HAve you ground everything u're supposed to for ignition?
dude.. if i was there i bet i could just plug a wire in or point out something not right and get it to start... yea i'm that confident.. it's as simple as emilinating the basic steps as to what gets an engine going. Stuff the codes for now!!! do the codes when u're sure it has SPARK, FUEL, AIR and IGNITION!!!
Research has shown child in front seat causes accidents, accident in back seat causes child
ok,every thing is grounded
the dizzy is fine the coil aint getting any power at all.
and yes the injectors are pulsing,
but the dizzy and coil have no current at all,,,,,,,,,,,,
what has to be grounded for the ignition
so u have fuel, injector is pulsing and everything's grounded..
no power at coil + dizzy.. means the next question should be power at the ignitor?? and if that's not working, i'd be looking at the ECU
nuff said try it dude.. the problem is not diagnostic codes yet, it's still not getting spark !!
i'm not sure but u'll need a wiring diagram of your ignition system and it'll point out that everything from ignition barrel to starter motor and everything EFI needs some grounding. I suggest u look at your ignitor first.. then if u have to, swap ECUs to eliminate that it's not the ignitor or ECU that's at fault
Research has shown child in front seat causes accidents, accident in back seat causes child
the injectors are pulsing and everything is grounded
ok i will try the ecu and let you no what happens and i will also try a new igniter as well and if not i will have 2 get my hands on a wiring diagram
thx 4 ur help...
Even if u use the codes it will narrow down what is and isnt working

yea.. true.. but the dude said he still doesn't have spark... IMO i wouldn't go diagnostic codes unless i've exhausted diagnosing all mechanical faults. Diagnostic codes would explain a few things though.. then again once i had a stuffed dizzy which would occassionally not work.. the codes didn't pick it up thus spent 2 weeks everday testing and waiting for new parts..one of which also turned out to be faulty... at that moment we didn't know wat it was so we swapped everything out, which was really annoying..Originally Posted by LeeRoy
we should be on the right track in getting the motor started eh..?

If you are trying a second Igniter - make sure you earth the Body of the igniter as
it needs that as an Earth Return ( not shown in a lot of Wiring Diagrams).
Toyoda
tow the car to me and ill fix it in 10 minutes
Yeh, diagnostics isn't usually the route i take but he was asking about it so...hmm.

well,
i put in another ecu and its still not starting.
It has no power at the coil still and there is no power at the plugs that plug the igniter in and the dizzy.i think my nxt step is to tow it and pay some 1 its not worth the trouble any more...
