GX81 & GZ20 1GGTE gearbox's the same ???

Hey all,

My gearbox in my z20 is beyond farqed and i have a replacement box from a GX81, The box in question is the A304E Autobox.

Does anyone know if this will be a nice little swap and start that will only take me a day ?

or does the GX81 1ggte have different bellhousing/electronics control ? compared to my GZ20 ??

Any help what so ever will be much appriciated

P.S. - Please no comments like "just get a manual coz auto is ghey wif teh aidz"

Should be identical, as they were basically the same year models.. bellhousing certinally wouldnt be different. Maybe the cooling lines that run there might be slightly different (but that wont concern u). I think i have a couple of pics somewhere of my gz20 auto, if u want u might be able to compare them to the gx81 u have in ur garage or whatever.
Did i mention u should get a manual jza70 cut and remove teh 1g and auto and live happily ever after? lol, sorry.

But seriosuly i have a couple of pics of my auto gearbox when i pulled it out, so if u want ill send em to ya or something, let me know.

oh and also coz i have planned to spend my money on a few trips over east towards the end of the year, one of them being the roadtrip for toyofest so i can meet all of you insted of doing 1JZ

So therefore i need a gearbox that will get me over east and not fall outta the car on the nullabour

Next year is 1JZ

Opinion is that they are the same, but that opinion is not backed up by practical experience of swapping a GX81 box into a GZ20
There may be slight variations in the speed sensors. Probably the biggest is the speed sensor on the front of the gearbox housing - possibly neither box has this one, but if you need it and the replacement box doesn't have it it's very difficult to install (in the context of a 1 day gearbox swap).
