How do I replace the front speakers on an ae101 corolla? Is it just a case of ripping all the door trims off to get to the speakers?
What size are they and can I run bigger ones if I want to?
and tricks/catches?

Hey Strad, something like this will prolly be common with the Levin.
You've gotta remove the dorr trim to get to the speakers. Not very hard to do at all.
It's only a few screws to get it out, then a standard size (think it was 5 1/4", but may have been 6 1/2") will slot straight in.
Not much point in going up in size... you'll be cutting metal, and you don't actually need any bigger in the front doors. If you want to go splits, it's the same... but you've just gotta find somewhere to mount the crossover and stick the tweeter.
Really? 5 1/4"? I happen to read elsewhere that they were just 4 inches.... Be nice if they were 5". wonder how to find out

haha... take of the door trim and measure
Like I said, I'm only going on what's in the AE101 Levin... maybe it's different.
true, the levin might have been upgraded hey. I was hoping to have the speakers before i pulled the door trim off you see.
Surely someone else has done this before?
It's not like they're a particularly UN common car..

Hey mate 6 or 6 1/2" speakers will go straight in. A few screws that are visable and the rest are just clips on the doors so it will pull straight off. Left hand side wires pink and purple pink being the positive wire, purple being negative and the right green and blue the green being positive. Not a hard job, if fitting co-axials should take someone who has no idea about an hour.. hope this helps..
Thanks mate. But how do 6 inches fit straight in if it's originally at 4 inch hole?

5 1/4" is the standard size for the fronts, back speakers are 6" but with 3 screws, so you need to make sure that whichever speakers you have have the right hole spacings.
I've got VDO Dayton MPS 5 1/4" splits in the front (tweeters are on the side mirror covers as I've got power mirrors), and 6" JL Audio 2-ways in the back, all except the tweeters bolted straight in to the stock mounts.
If knowledge of stock size is absolutely critical, I've still got the stock speakers in the box out in the garage, can measure very easily.

+1 for 5.25" in the fronts. I fitted some of the base model Jaycar ones to my sister's car a few years ago, they went straight in without any hassles.
