Electric superchargers

Hi people,

I am curious to know if anyone has uesed or made an electric supercharger? I have seen them for sale. I have never wanted to buy one but have wondered if anyone can say good things about them. They are obviously very low boost items and not the real deal.

nope.
when you consider an SC on a 1.6L motor at decent boost and rpm will pull in excess of 20kw.... thats a shit load of current at 12V (1670amps)
there are a couple of vortech? style ones that can provide low psi for short periods, with around a 1-1.5kw motor (iirc)...

but in general.. it's crap all you need to do is work out how much power is required to drive a mechanical air pump to provide the volume and pressure you are thinking of... and then match that to available 12V motors

Yes, OC is correct. Do the maths, work out the air flow rate required and the pressure required, then work out the energy needed to compress enough air to supply this. You'll come out with some big number. And running off 12V this will require silly currents. It's cheaper and way more beneficial to just do a proper SC/turbo conversion.

the only 'real' one ive seen runs off basically parallel starter motors

anything less than that is a toy

I haven't even considered one. If were to go forced induction then i would use a real supercharger. I just wondered. Thanks for the replys,
