Toyota fan clutch

Anybody ever replaced the silicone oil in their fan clutch?

If so how do you do it?

You can buy the oil from toyota. I have a book some where that tells you how. From memory you need a new "o" ring if you dissasemble it. some have a plug to refill it and some are filled half full and reassembled and also some are adjustable so that they engage at either a higher or lower temp. i will have to chaase up the book.
where did the oil go? that is usually why they fail

As said, you can get the oil from toyota...

I tried to do mine once, but for the life of me couldn't get the screws that held it together undone... the nice local Toyota dealership at the time did it for me when I bought the oil!

I'd be interested in seeing the Toyota docs on how to do it tho (esp if some have adj)

I did my Jaguar fan once, drilled and tapped a hole to pour the Toyota oil in and put a plug in it when finished. The toyota fan may come apart though. Oil is part number 08816-03001

Thanks all.

I bought the oil yesterday and will pull the fan off tomorrow and see if I can destroy it.

The part number on the two little bottles I have is 08816-10001 which I think is the same stuff just a slightly heavier grade of oil. Hopefully that makes the fan coupling a bit more solid. Anyway soon I will know for sure.

I pulled my fan clutch apart today.

It had almost no oil in it at all.

I filled it up and sealed the edge with silicone sealant (o ring was healthy) and put it back together.

Before I could get one full turn when I flicked the fan around, after it wil only turn by a fraction of a turn about 1/6 th to 1/3 rd of a turn.

Not sure where the oil went but if it leaks out again I will have to buy a new one.

mate over the years/km i think the oil just disintegrates...every fan ive done has basically been empty, just wear and tear n not so much that its leaked out

The new oil was seriously thick. It was hard to get it all ut of the little tubes.

Even with the tubes standing upside down the oil doesnt even come out unless you squeeze the tubes.

Seems a sthough it would be hard pressed to leak out of the fan clutch.

not so much that it leaks, probly more or less just disintegrates....theres not that much fluid in them when you think about it, and they are under constant high load n temperature so understandable at 100k or more they're empty

95% of 7MGE fan clutches dont work even when they have oil in them , Its the blue hub ones . The only ones ive seen work are low klm ones or ones that have been replaced . I think when the bearing gets a bit of wear in it they dont work properly. Also if you put too much oil in them they wont unlock in winter.
The RED hub 7MGT clutches are fantastic . And if you need even more cooling you can use a GREY hub 3L diesel clutch.
