Hi
I have some questions perhaps for someone like Rodger, River or someone similarly experienced.
Firstly I have a couple of sets of solex sidedrafts differing in numbers, 88226, 88254 and 88251. Is there information out there about the differences (if any?). I read a post which refered to the 51s and 44mm? I dont think these are but they are still on the engine and I dont really want to remove them yet. I know I can check for 165 on the butterfly to see if they are 40s or not
If I am looking to rebuild a pair how should I chose? Take the ones which are in best nick?
or the one which I can get a kit easily for?
They are (I think) different generations esp. the 88226 but so far searching keywords like solex with those numbers havent helped? Should I be looking at the old forums?
What about diagrams? Rebuild instructions? Anyone got these?
Thanks
Nathan
You can get kits from http://www.wolfcreekracing.com/ much cheaper than some places here in OZ. If the carb is 40mm that is easy, to measure . Have a search thru the forums and try different key words. In my opinion there is not that much between the solex models. from early 18rg to the 18rgu varient.
thhis may have some information http://www.toymods.net/forums/showth...tractor+engine

Thanks Dave,
Checked out wolf creek racing... Nice thanks.
Think I have T types? which would be consistent with them coming off Toyota engines!
Do you know if there is any list of the reference numbers. Eg T type 88226, 88254 etc?
Or is it just a matter of matching the pictures?
Thanks
Nathan
P.S. + rep if I can.
Hi,
Just saw this post. Going out this evening and will have a look asap and see what I can find. Hopefully Roger see's this post and can help out too.

Silly question, have you seen Rodgers site? http://rmcarburetors.net/
It shows pictures of the different types, what engines they were from and rebuild info.
Never seen a list of reference numbers before, Rodger will know.
Diagrams can be found here... http://www.toymods.net/forums/showth...hlight=diagram
Cheers, Jason.
Jason,
You have a single 2TG spec carb (88226) and a non matched pair of 18RGU spec carbs (88251 and 88254).
226 was standard front carb for 2TG 7401 to 7509.
251 was standard rear carb for 18RGU 7510 to 7701.
254 was standard front carb for 18RGU 7701 to 7707.
If both 251 and 254 are unmolested there will be differences in some of the jet sizes used.
What he said up there.
Thanks 71TA22.
I can now only help with sorting matching jetting and linkages. I kind of left any info off the site referencing part numbers, partially I have never researched that deep, partially that any engine could end up with any type of Solex. I do know enough though to do Concourse set ups.
None will be 44s, all are 40s.

Rodger
Thanks to all who replied.
This info is exactly what I was after. I can check jets etc when I decide which ones to pull down....
And just to clear something up..... I have a pair of 2TG (226)
A pair of 251s and a pair of 254s!
Yeah I collected a few to put on a stock 2T and then found a 2TG with a pair on which I couldnt knock back!! Now to finish the paint job and start to rebuild!
What is the general school of thought? Bigger jets = more petrol = going faster right? Or is there more of a balance to it all.
Will have more of a read through those threads and sites listed above and get back on this thread when I have more questions.
Thanks to all.
Nathan
Ok here is the run down.
After a bit of a read of Rodgers info..... I took the covers off one of each of the carbies.
I have a selection of jets but it all seems to be close to one of the recommended settings by Rodger.
The 226s are S5 and have 190 main jets and a 57.5 pilot jet (well the one I opened did!)
The 54s have 140 main and 63.8 pilot
and the 51s are the same 140/63.8
Both the 54s and 51s are t type.
Any advice on which ones to start with?
These carbies have all been "tinkered" with as the ceramic heating elements are pretty much all cracked or smashed! Lucky it doesnt get cold in Adelaide. I assume that this wont hurt the running of the carbie as long as all the loose bits are out?
So back to the original question?
Should I take each carbie apart and check which pair I want to use? Strip parts from each.. seals and orings? or just buy a couple of kits from Rodger and go from there?
I am tempted to try to stay with the 2TG 226s but it depends on how they look inside and whether I can locate a couple of the venturis and sleeves which are missing.
Cheers
Nathan
Oh and should the front and rears contain the same jets?? I would assume so?

Noof,
The type Ts would most likely be in better condition. The S5s tend to rattle loose their inner venturies and they are rare as hen's teeth but they have a couple of features that can be fiddled over the Ts.
The heating elements can be removed, the screws and nut fitted back in place. The elements are only needed in Europe and Japan in dead of winter.
Main, Air and Pilot Jets, Jet blocks and Bleed pipes can be interchanged to make four matching sets. The 190 Air and the bigger Mains from the set with the 63.8 Pilot would be a starter.
The inner and outer venturies cannot be exchanged, they can be used at a pinch but need modifications. Most screws, the pump housings and pump mechanicals can be exchanged. The pump weights cannot.
Throttle plates and shafts can be exchanged and the S5s have the prefered profile. All gaskets and parts can be purchased for both carb types.

Rodger
Thanks Rodger.
Not entirely sure what I will do here. Just have to wait and see!
Have a fair bit of painting to do over the next few weeks hopefully!!![]()
