Ok guys...
First post
I have a bit of spare cash, but i don't want to part with my camry... so... what would i need to do to convert the big c@mry to turbo?? and how much am i looking at??
I need parts n stuff, coz i am not very mechanically minded... (and by not very mechanically minded... i mean computer nerd)
I think this should be in normal tech section....and you should search first and read the FAQ section, its recommended for most newbies
What kinda camry you have. i dont know heaps bout em, but im pretty sure that a 3S-GTE conversion from a celica would be the best bet. I think there is a few camry boys getting round here with that engine.

If you have a Gen 2 (1987-1991), then the 3SGTE would be your best bet. It's a direct bolt in turbo engine from a Celica. Some wiring has to be done to get it going, but the main parts all bolt in.
If you have a Gen 3, there have been some 3SGTE's put into them, but it does requrie more work, since the mounts are different. You can use the 5SFE and build it up with a 3SGTE head, making it a 5SGTE. Also, you can pop in the 1MZ V6.
Gen 4 is similar, same sorta engines/work than the Gen 3. And Gen 5, well, not too many people have ventured there yet!

If you want to turbo your stock motor, and do it right, don't expect to get much change out of 8k
Basic setup:
Microtech, fitted and tuned. $2000
Custom turbo manifolds $1000 (V6) $600-800 (4cyl)
Bigger fuel pump, injectors, Fuel pressure reg: $800
Custom intake manifold $600-1000
FMIC plus plumbing $1000
Turbo (single) $1200, twin $2000+ (V6)
Labour on install: $2000-3000 (guess)
Rebuild motor, stronger internals $2000
Not trying to put you off at all man, and you could do this much cheaper by adapting this and that, using 2nd hand turbos, etc etc, but you'll need to be able to have the car off the road for a while, and also be willing to learn hands on a lot of skills. Remember as always to spend $$$ on suspention and brakes (and tyres) as well, they're more important and a lot of fun...Most of all, good luck!
